WASHINGTON, DC: Ahead of the important February 24 South Carolina primary, Nikki Haley is accusing her competitor Donald Trump of “playing politics” regarding the crisis at the southern border.

On Sunday, February 4, Haley appeared on Dana Bash’s ‘State of the Union’ where she made her fiery claim that former President Trump is “absolutely playing politics” as he is allegedly telling the congressional Republicans to reject a deal with the Democrats aimed at curbing the record influx through border crossing.

What did Nikki Haley accuse Donald Trump of?

During Sunday’s episode of ‘State of the Union’, the former South Carolina governor lambasted her primary opponent saying, “We shouldn’t be getting involved telling Republicans that wait until the election because we don’t want this to help Biden win.”

Haley tried to bring attention to the situation of the southern border crisis, and added, “We can’t wait one more day.”

She continued, “You have millions of people who have come to that border. They are not being vetted. America is acting like it’s September 10.”

Per The Washington Times, the bipartisan agreement which was to be released on Sunday is yet to be signed. The agreement includes mandatory expulsion by authorities once 5,000 daily illegal crossings are reached.

Haley said on Sunday, “This is not a time to play politics.”

She continued, “I hear some Republicans saying, ‘Oh, but we don’t need a law at all because Biden could do this already.’ Well, there’s some truth to that, and then some of that is false.”

“Yes, Biden could go back to some of the laws that put it in place,” continued Haley, before noting, “But 3 million illegal immigrants came under Trump.”

Statement from President Joe Biden

On February 4, The White House released a statement regarding the Bipartisan Senate National Security Agreement.

Upon the completion of the bill by the members of his administration, President Joe Biden said in the statement, "Now we’ve reached an agreement on a bipartisan national security deal that includes the toughest and fairest set of border reforms in decades. I strongly support it."

He continued, "It will make our country safer, make our border more secure, treat people fairly and humanely while preserving legal immigration, consistent with our values as a nation. It would give me, as President, a new emergency authority to shut down the border when it becomes overwhelmed. "

"It will make our asylum process fairer and more efficient while protecting the most vulnerable. It will expedite work permits so that those who are here and qualify can get to work more quickly," explained the president.

He added, "It will provide the resources I have repeatedly requested to secure the border by adding border patrol agents, immigration judges, asylum officers, and cutting-edge inspection machines to help detect and stop the flow of fentanyl," Biden added, "While this agreement doesn’t address everything I would have wanted, these reforms are essential for making our border more orderly, secure, fair, and humane."

He ended the statement by urging the Republicans to support it, saying, "I urge Congress to come together and swiftly pass this bipartisan agreement. Get it to my desk so I can sign it into law immediately."

Internet divided over Nikki Haley's claims

Netizens were divided in their opinion of Haley's statement as a few defended Trump. Some of the social media users, however, pondered on Haley's statement and supported her.

One of the social media users slammed Haley saying, "It becomes more and more obvious that Haley simply took over the baton from Christie and her only job is to make Trump look bad. Why haven't we seen the suggested border bill Trump plays politics with when it is so great?"

Someone else added, "One problem with Haley's comment...Haley has NO plans for border security. Haley: All Hat, No Cattle."

"Trump did something about the border without any help from Congress. Why doesn’t Biden? 3 years of open borders with nothing from Biden," criticized another user.

Another netizen chimed in, "The border has been wide open for three years and now that the democrats are finally wanting to do something about it, we should be forced to except a crappy border deal that won't solve anything? I think not."

"So she says we need to go back to Trump's policies (even though she won't call them Trump's policies) but at the same time says Trump is playing politics with the border by not wanting Rs to accept a bill that brings in 1.8 million a year. She's the one playing politics," criticized another social media user.

Someone else stated, "Haley is stating the obvious on that specific point."
