DES MOINES, IOWA: Florida governor Ron DeSantis found himself thrust into an unusual spotlight as he took digs at his GOP rival Vivek Ramaswamy after Former President Donald Trump attacked him before the Iowa caucus.

The 77-year-old GOP front-runner took to his Truth Social on Saturday, January 13 to attack the 38-year-old biotech multimillionaire for the first time.

"Vivek started his campaign as a great supporter, ‘the best President in generations,’ etc. Unfortunately, now all he does is disguise his support in the form of deceitful campaign tricks,” he slammed.

In addition, the real estate tycoon declared that Vivek is "not MAGA" and cautioned his followers not to be "duped." “Very sly, but a vote for Vivek is a vote for the 'other side' — don’t get duped by this,” he said.

“Vote for “TRUMP,” don’t waste your vote! Vivek is not MAGA. The Biden Indictments against his Political Opponent will never be allowed in this Country, they are already beginning to fall! MAGA!!!” Trump added.

In the face of Trump's vehement attack, Ramaswamy refrained from criticizing the former president and responded calmly, avoiding what he called "friendly fire."

"Yes, I saw President Trump’s Truth Social post. It’s an unfortunate move by his campaign advisors, I don’t think friendly fire is helpful," he wrote on X, adding, "Donald Trump was the greatest President of the 21st century, and I’m not going to criticize him in response to this late attack.”

Defending himself against Trump's accusation of not being part of the MAGA movement, Ramaswamy said, "I’m worried for Trump. I’m worried for our country. I’ve stood up against the persecutions against Trump, and I’ve defended him at every step."

What did DeSantis say about Ramaswamy?

DeSantis appeared elated by the news of Trump’s sudden fury toward Ramaswamy during a campaign appearance on Sunday, January 14.

The GOP frontrunner was sharing the stage with Reps Thomas Massie (R-KY) and Chip Roy (R-TX) when he addressed Trump’s attack but appeared to forget Ramaswamy’s name.

"You know I noticed that they, that they threw, um, um, um," DeSantis said to the media, pausing until Massie helped him remember Vivek's name. “Vivek! Yeah. Yeah. Threw him under the bus,” he continued.

Then, mocking Ramaswamy, DeSantis asserted that he had never witnessed a presidential contender simultaneously advocating for the victory of another.

“I’ve never seen a candidate run for an office and basically campaign for another candidate in the same race before, and that’s what’s happening. But the minute he wasn’t useful, you know, they dropped the hammer on it. So that’s just kind of the way, way they are,” he trolled.

Internet reacts to DeSantis’ remarks

After DeSantis’ remarks surfaced on social media, many users slammed him for mocking Ramaswamy after Trump’s attack.

“What a clown,” one user slammed. “DeSantis will look funny endorsing Trump next month…” a second user trolled.

“WTF did these people think was going to happen when they ran against him? Didn't they watch the 2016 primary?” another user blasted while a fourth said, “Someone saves this, if he endorses Trump in the end we’ll have proof of his hypocrisy!!”

“DeSantis has run one of the worst campaigns. Doesn’t surprise me. This is not a smart statement,” a user slammed. “That clown DeSantis is enjoying his last night in this campaign. Worst candidate in a lifetime,” someone else wrote.
