Ron DeSantis mocked as heckler tries to give Florida Gov a 'participation trophy' in front of wife Casey
ATLANTIC, IOWA: Florida Governor Ron DeSantis faced public humiliation on Saturday, January 13, when a heckler crashed his Iowa campaign event to award him a "participation trophy."
The demonstrator interrupted the remarks of the presidential hopeful, who stood beside his wife, Casey DeSantis, attempting to hand him the trophy while saying, "You’re probably not going to win the election, but we’re proud of you for trying," as reported by Daily Mail.
Videos from the event showed Casey stepping in front of her husband as security escorted the heckler out, providing fodder for internet mockery, with some taking a jab at Ron for supposedly using his wife as a "human shield."

Political comedian interrupts Ron DeSantis' Iowa campaign event
Ron, who is busy making a final push in Iowa before the Republican Party caucuses on January 15, was interrupted by political comedian Davram Stiefler during his remarks to the media alongside his wife Casey in an Atlantic event.
As security got involved, Ron put a hand on Stiefler's shoulder and said, "I don’t need a participation trophy. Sorry, buddy."
The heckler went on, "He's special, he's unique, and he's our little snowflake," and was subsequently escorted out before he managed to ask the Florida Governor, "Did you want the award?"
This incident was one of several disruptions the presidential hopeful has faced in recent days while campaigning across Iowa. As per Daily Mail, about an hour-and-a-half away in West Des Moines, a protestor wearing a carrot suit tried to enter the event but was turned away.
Moreover, during previous events on Thursday, Ron was heckled by environmental activists protesting his apparently inadequate environmental policies and failure to deliver on past promises.
Ron DeSantis vows to 'reverse the decline' of Republican Party
Later on Saturday, Ron told voters in West Des Moines that he is "sick of Republicans basically caving on everything to the Democrats." He cited unsuccessful border wall construction under former President Donald Trump as an example.
The Florida Governor asserted, "We need to win the election, of course, but winning just gives you the ticket to the dance. You’ve got to actually convert on all these things. Because if you don’t follow through on these promises, that’s just managing the decline.”
He vowed to "reverse the decline" and "deliver on all these things" if elected president. With Iowa temperatures plunging below zero, Ron urged voters to brave the hazardous weather to vote for him on January 15.
Internet mocks Ron DeSantis as heckler tries to award him a 'participation trophy'
Videos of the comedian trying to give Ron a "participation trophy" went viral, with many pointing out how the Florida Governor apparently hid behind his wife, Casey.
One humorously commented, "Casey is his bodyguard now? How humiliating....I love it!" Another asked, "Did he use his wife as a human shield?"
A person noted, "Casey steps in to protect Ronny baby. Omg," while someone else added, "Without the participation trophy, DeSantis will walk away from Iowa with nothing. So sad."
An individual quipped, "And, socially clumsy that he is, he declined to accept it."
