WASHINGTON, DC: Jill Stein, who is running for president with the Green Party, noted a significant uptick in support from dissatisfied Democrats and a quadrupling of donations following President Joe Biden's poor performance in the recent televised presidential debate.

In an extensive interview with Newsweek, Stein expressed her discomfort while watching the incumbent, particularly due to his "cognitive issues," which she claimed were not unexpected.

"It was really sad. It felt uncomfortable. And it felt like a terrible commentary on our political system—that this is the best that they could come up with," she lamented.

Stein, a physician with a Harvard Medical School background, remarked, "A mafia predator versus a very feeble, struggling elder who was clearly having some cognitive issues, which are not new. For those of us who have been paying attention, this has been evident—the state of affairs—for quite some time."

Green Party candidate Jill Stein urges Americans to avoid settling for a 'lesser evil vote'

Stein criticized the Democratic Party for not replacing Biden, suggesting that any replacement would likely be a "younger Joe Biden."

She believes the root issue lies within the flawed political system itself. "It's not just Joe Biden. But Joe Biden is a fitting symbol of the system. This system does not have a brain. It does not have rational thought. It does not have a memory. And it does not have a functioning heart or soul," asserted the Green Party candidate.

During the debate, Biden appeared confused and lost his train of thought several times, raising concerns about his mental acuity. This led some Democrats to call for his withdrawal from the presidential race against Donald Trump.

An aide mentioned that Biden was battling a cold during the debate, and Biden himself admitted he nearly fell asleep during the event.

Stein declared that third parties "won the debate" by highlighting the disconnect between the major parties and the public. She observed that the debate showcased "two zombie candidates representing zombie parties that are completely out of touch."

According to her, third-party support is on the rise, as evidenced by increased donations and anticipated new supporter sign-ups.

Stein urged Americans to avoid settling for a "lesser evil vote," emphasizing that the exclusion of third-party candidates limits voters' choices. Citing polling data from FiveThirtyEight, she noted that Biden's disapproval rating increased by 0.9 percent to 56.9 percent post-debate, while Trump's disapproval rating only rose by 0.1 percent to 53.6 percent.

The environmental activist highlighted various systemic issues plaguing the US, including healthcare, housing, and education, before declaring that "everything is wrong" with the country.

"We can't keep kids out of poverty in this country," said Stein, pointing out how the US is "sending hundreds of billions of dollars" to finance a "genocidal war against Gaza and also the war in Ukraine—both of which the American people want to stop right now."

Addressing the situation in Gaza, Stein criticized US foreign policy. Israel has denied accusations of genocide in Gaza, where its actions have resulted in over 37,900 Palestinian deaths, mostly women and children, according to Gaza's Health Ministry.

The conflict began after Hamas launched a surprise attack on October 7, 2023, killing approximately 1,200 people in southern Israel, as reported by the Associated Press.

During the interview, Stein, who was the Green Party's presidential nominee for the 2012 and 2016 elections, also warned of the risk of nuclear war, attributing Russian aggression in Ukraine to the US's rejection of peace deals with Moscow.

She argued, "The US has led the way in dismantling nuclear treaties. We've laid the groundwork for reestablishing missiles all over and particularly on Russia's border, which is why Russia went to the mat after trying to put forward peace deal after peace deal, which was essentially rejected by the United States. We are in wars very much of our own making."

Internet reacts as Green Party candidate Jill Stein reports surge in support after Joe Biden's debate fiasco

As Stein reported on the growing popularity of third-party candidates, netizens commented with their perspectives regarding the current situation.

One wrote, "The third party candidates will definitely benefit from the horror show that so many call a debate," and another said, "Go Go Go!"

"If the debate hadn’t made it impossible to do so, the mainstream media would still be telling us that Biden is fit for office," remarked someone else.

One more declared, "I’ll be voting for her," while another person echoed, "She definitely will be getting my vote." A netizen noted, "Awesome news! Maybe the people are finally waking up from their deep slumber after all!"

An individual expressed, "I would support a 3rd party candidate, If I thought they could win. Sound typical?"

Having said that there were some who expressed skepticism, with one stating, "A vote for her is a vote for Trump and everyone knows it," and another adding, "Great! She can help Trump get elected again! Thanks, Jill!"
