WASHINGTON, DC: Former First lady Michelle Obama is the only Democrat who can beat former President Donald Trump a new poll survey shows.

In the survey, conducted by Reuters/Ipsos, Obama garnered 50 percent support in a hypothetical match-up against Trump, who receives 39 percent. Only four percent of respondents said they would not vote at all.

In contrast, President Joe Biden and Donald Trump are in a head-to-head match-up, each receiving 40 percent of the vote.

Additionally, eight percent of respondents said they would vote for someone else, and another eight percent said they would not vote, The Hill reported.

Former First lady Obama was the top choice among Democrats to replace Biden on the 2024 ticket, according to a Rasmussen Reports poll, released in February.

Despite her popularity, Obama has repeatedly stated she will not pursue a bid for the White House.

The Reuters and Ipsos poll also found that about one in three Democrats believe Biden should drop out of the race.

Following a rocky debate performance last week, where Biden appeared to stumble over his words and lacked energy, some Democrats have called for him to step down from the ballot.

Other Democrats floated as potential replacements for Joe Biden included Vice President Kamala Harris, who received 42 percent in a head-to-head match-up with Donald Trump, who received 43 percent.

California Governor Gavin Newsom trailed Trump by three percentage points, and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer trailed by five points in a hypothetical contest with the presumptive GOP nominee.

While the Reuters/Ipsos poll does not show Biden losing ground to Trump, other post-debate polls indicate that he is.

The White House and Biden's campaign have tried to quell concerns about the debate performance in recent days and have dismissed calls for the president to suspend his campaign.

Internet divided over Michelle Obama as a possible Joe Biden replacement for presidential run

Online reactions have been mixed, with some expressing disappointment that Michelle Obama will not run for president.

"What a pity she said that she doesn't want to run," wrote one user on X (formerly Twitter).

Another commented, "We don't need another Obama in office."

Others believed she would be a strong candidate. "Michelle Obama would have been good as US president," wrote one.

"She's the only Dem Trump is scared of," added another user, to which someone replied, "Trump is kind of scared of Harris and Newsom also. But hides it well."

However, many users remained skeptical about the Former First lady's possible candidacy.

"Not happening," stated one user, with another adding, "She hated her time in the White House. It would be bad for her and for America if she were to do an about face now."

In response to Obama’s reluctance to run, one user wrote, "No one cares because she is too much of a coward to run."
