LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Representative Scott Peters (D-Calif) has criticized Joe Biden's campaign, calling it "arrogant" after the president's faltering debate performance last week.

Peters expressed concern over Biden's struggles in swing states and the campaign's response to the debate with Donald Trump in an interview with CBS 8 San Diego.

Biden's first debate performance alarmed some Democrats and supporters as the president struggled to articulate his ideas and rebut former President Donald Trump's false statements.

Peters noted the importance of a strong performance in the swing states which Biden did not deliver.

"As much as I love Joe Biden, in those swing states, he’s having a hard time,” Peters said.

“We needed a boost from Thursday. We didn’t get it. And the campaign has been very, I think, arrogant in their response," he added.

Joe Biden's struggles raise concerns among Democrats

Recent polls have shown Biden trailing Trump in most swing states.

A June poll before the debate found Trump up four points over Biden in Arizona and Georgia, three points up in Wisconsin and Nevada, and two points up in Pennsylvania.

In Michigan, Trump led by one point and the pair was dead even in Minnesota.

A Wednesday poll from The New York Times, taken after the debate, found Trump had increased his lead nationally to six points, The Hill noted.

Peters did not say he wanted Biden off the ticket as three other House Democrats - Representatives Lloyd Doggett (D-Texas) and Raul Grijalva (D-Ariz) and Seth Moulton (D-Mass) have called for the president to withdraw from the race.

“We want to know what [the Biden campaign] plan is to win this election and turn these numbers around,” he suggested saying it is an option that should be considered.

“If they don’t have a plan, then I think we have to move in a different direction," he added.

The Biden campaign and White House have strongly opposed any idea of the president leaving the race. Biden, too, has described his feelings on campaign call saying, "I am the Demcorat nominee, no one is pushing me out."

Internet reacts to Scott Peters' comments about Joe Biden campaign's arrogance

Peters' comments have sparked a mix of reactions online, with some agreeing with his assessment and others criticizing his timing and judgment. The reactions online have been varied too.

One user on X wrote, "The only option besides Biden is Kamala and unless Dems accept this, it's all talk and no walk from them. It's easy to imagine some ideal replacement, but practically it is near impossible now. Kamala is the only practical option. Push for her or nobody else."

Another user agreed with Peters, saying, "Exactly. The campaign's response has raised just as many questions as the actual debate."

Some users defended Biden and criticized the media. "The media has been arrogant in their refusal to hold Trump under the same microscope as Biden.

"Read the debate transcript and see who actually was answering the questions (Biden) and who was just spouting lies (Trump)!" one person wrote.

Others were critical of Peters himself. "They're giving a platform to a coward," one user said. Another added, "How did he not see this before? They all had on blinders."
