WASHINGTON, DC: Turning Point USA has announced that Erika Kirk will take over as the organization’s new CEO and Chair following the death of her husband, Charlie Kirk.

The board confirmed on Thursday that Charlie, who founded TPUSA in 2012, had previously expressed his wish for Erika to succeed him in the event of his death.

Charlie Kirk, 31, was speaking at Utah Valley University on September 10 when he was fatally shot.

Authorities arrested Tyler Robinson, 22, last Friday and charged him with aggravated murder and six other offenses, including obstruction of justice and witness tampering. Utah prosecutors said they plan to seek the death penalty.

TPUSA’s board said Charlie wanted his wife to take the reins if anything happened to him.

“In prior discussions, Charlie expressed to multiple executives that this is what he wanted in the event of his death,” the board revealed in a statement signed by Doug De Groote, Mike Miller, Tom Sodeika and David Engelhardt.

The organization vowed to move forward with Charlie’s mission. “Charlie prepared all of us for a moment like this one. He worked tirelessly to ensure Turning Point USA was built to survive even the greatest tests,” the board said.

“We will not surrender or kneel before evil. We will carry on," the statement added.

“The attempt to destroy Charlie’s work will become our chance to make it more powerful and enduring than ever before," it concluded.

Erika Kirk promises to expand husband’s movement in his honor

In her first public comments since her husband’s death, Erika addressed the nation in a Friday night livestream.

“To everyone listening tonight across America, the movement my husband built will not die. It won’t. I refuse to let that happen. It will not die,” she said.

She continued, “All of us will refuse to let that happen. No one will ever forget my husband’s name, and I will make sure of it.”

Erika also called her husband a “martyr” for the nation and pledged to expand his work. “I promise I’ll make Turning Point the biggest thing this nation has ever seen,” she added. “I promise Charlie.”

Internet reacts to Erika Kirk stepping in as TPUSA’s new leader

Supporters on the internet praised Erika Kirk’s appointment as Turning Point USA CEO.

One person wrote on X, “I love that Erika will be the new CEO and Chair of the Board for TPUSA. But, it just made my heart sink to know that Charlie was thinking about this at 31. I'm glad he did, but so sad that he had to think what should happen to TPUSA if he dies. He knew they wanted him dead and he stood strong and kept going - nothing short of pure courage.”

Another supporter posted, “This was the only correct thing to do. If he trusted her to be the mother of his children then obviously he trusted her to lead his organization. Their kids will hopefully grow up and pick up their father's mantle as well.”

One more user said, “And her message will be heard like a battle cry. We are with you Erika. Forward, For Charlie.”

Another wrote, “As Charlie stated on air, ‘Erika is more conservative than me.’ I can't imagine anyone more well suited to lead the way. Congratulations on a very wise choice.”
