LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: John Oliver, the witty host of HBO's 'Last Week Tonight', recently took aim at former President Donald Trump's peculiar claims regarding corn.

In his latest episode, Oliver dedicated a segment to the ubiquitous crop, shedding light on the oddities of political pandering to corn farmers.

Donald Trump's corn conundrum

Highlighting a tradition of American politicians showcasing their affinity for corn, Oliver cited instances involving Barack Obama, Mitt Romney, and George W Bush.

“There is a long history of American politicians being weird around corn,” Oliver said.

However, it was Trump who claimed the spotlight for his particularly bizarre remarks about corn during a recent MAGA rally in New Hampshire.

During the rally, Trump exclaimed, "I just met non-liquid gold, you know where it was? Iowa! It’s called corn." He went on to tout the significance of corn, proclaiming, "That’s a nickname in its own way, but we came up with a new word for… a new couple of words for corn!"

John Oliver's sardonic take

Oliver, with his trademark sarcasm, couldn't help but express confusion over Trump's wordplay, quipping, "Did you though? Because non-liquid gold isn’t so much a way of describing corn as it is a way of describing regular gold."

He further mocked Trump's supposed innovation, likening it to Lyft's introduction of Lyft Shuttle, which essentially amounted to reinventing the bus.

In a tongue-in-cheek fashion, Oliver acknowledged Trump's assertion that the United States is the "largest producer, consumer, and exporter of non-liquid not-gold in the world."

At the end of the segment, Oliver humorously announced a brief hiatus for 'Last Week Tonight', stating, "Last Week Tonight would not air an original episode on Sunday, May 26, but would return the following Sunday, June 2."

Reactions pour in: From wordplay to political  commentary

As John Oliver's segment on Trump's "new couple of words for corn" aired, viewers took to social media to share their thoughts. Here's a glimpse at the diverse range of reactions

One user wrote, "I thought that he would have called it Con just like he is!."

Another said, "Trum* moved up to block letters."

One user replied, "One of my favorite words for "corn" is the Navajo word--naadaa" which has the vowels of the second syllable nasalized and at a higher pitch than the first syllable. The Navajo word means " the food of strangers.'"

One commented, "Reading the illiterate replies of Trump supporters on this thread makes me believe that we have reached that point in the movie Idiocracy so much quicker than predicted. "

One replied, "king cheato is talking about the stuff floating around his skull in place of a brain."
