WASHINGTON, DC: Democratic Rep Jared Moskowitz slammed Ilhan Omar, a colleague, on Tuesday, April 30, for her remarks last week that implied Jewish Columbia University students were divided into two groups - those who supported and those who opposed the genocide of Palestinians, according to the New York Post.

Notably, Omar told a reporter on Friday, April 26, during a visit to the Morningside Heights campus, "We should not have to tolerate antisemitism or bigotry for all Jewish students, whether they are pro-genocide or anti-genocide."

On Tuesday, April 30, Moskowitz said on MSNBC's 'Morning Joe' that Omar's remarks amounted to "pouring gasoline" on an unstable situation.

He said, "I got 10-year-old and seven-year-old Jewish children. I don’t know if they’re pro-genocide or anti-genocide. I guess I’ll talk to them about that."

Notably, together with Josh Gottheimer of New Jersey and Dan Goldman of New York, Moskowitz is one of three Jewish Democrats who have often denounced antisemitic, pro-terror demonstrations at Columbia and other US campuses.

He said, "I remember when Charlottesville happened [in 2017], it was universal condemnation. And the people who tried to ignore that or explain it away or say, ‘It’s not everybody’ — we condemned those people. But here, for some reason, when it’s ‘Jews, go back to Poland,’ ‘Bomb Tel Aviv,’ all of a sudden it’s peaceful."

Moreover, Rep Mike Lawler joined Moskowitz in the interview to promote the Antisemitism Awareness Act of 2023, which aims to put a stop to the unrest on campuses. This proposal would amend the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to include the definition of antisemitism provided by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance.

Moskowitz explained, "It’s going to give, obviously, more teeth to the federal government to enforce their rules and regulations. What we’re seeing is, we’re seeing universities complicate it by failing to lead and protect their students, failing to enforce their code of conduct, taking options off the table, giving all the power to the protesters."
