WASHINGTON, DC: As part of special counsel Robert Hur's investigation into the improper handling of classified documents, Attorney General Merrick Garland was threatened on Monday, March 25, with being held in contempt of Congress if he did not provide audio recordings of his interviews with President Joe Biden and his ghostwriter, according to the New York Post.

Notably, the recording was subpoenaed in February by Chairman of the Judiciary Committee Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Chairman of the Oversight Committee James Comer (R-Kentucky).

House Republicans threaten Merrick Garland with contempt over Robert Hur material

Comer and Jordan wrote, "The Committees expect you to produce all responsive materials no later than 12:00 p.m. on April 8, 2024. If you fail to do so, the Committees will consider taking further action, such as the invocation of contempt of Congress proceedings."

Notably, Hur's conclusion that the president's mental degeneration is so evident that no jury could find him guilty of intentionally mishandling sensitive materials during his eight-year vice presidency and 36-year Senate term might be supported or refuted by Biden's tapes.

Moreover, tapes of ghostwriter Mark Zwonitzer, who acknowledged removing tapes of Biden discussing private material after discovering Hur's investigation, would provide more context for the conversations detailed in the special counsel's report.

Hur said that in one video Biden claimed to have just discovered sensitive documents in the basement of his northern Virginia rental house after serving as vice president.

Notably, transcripts of Biden's conversations with Hur from October 8–9 were made public by the Justice Department on March 12, only hours before the former special counsel testified before the House Judiciary Committee.

Since similar methods forced FBI Director Christopher Wray to provide papers on an informant's allegation that the Biden family took payments from a Ukrainian businessman in 2023, the prospect of a humiliating contempt proceedings may encourage transparency.

Internet slams as House panels threaten Merrick Garland with contempt

Several internet users slammed Merrick Garland after he was threatened with being held in contempt of Congress if he did not provide audio recordings of his interviews with President Biden and his ghostwriter.

A user posted on social media platform X, "They're gonna do nothing" while another added, "Time to dump him." A user also wrote, "Threats mean nothing. Charge him. Take action. Make him comply."

A user also stated, "I agree. All they do is threaten. They dropped the Hunter charges of contempt, they’d do the same for Garland. It’s a Republican Party with no teeth", whereas one mentioned, "The only thing that would happen if they got their hands on those tapes would be a whole lot of editing! It would just be more Progressive propaganda."

A person also stated, "They really do believe they’re above the law because they never get held accountable for anything. We need to change that and fast."
