Internet slams Biden administration for blaming Congress for fall of Ukrainian city Avdiivka
WASHINGTON, DC: The Biden administration said on Saturday, February 17, that Congress' refusal to approve further funding for Kyiv's war efforts was the reason behind the military retreat of Ukraine from Avdiivka.
Notably, Ukraine ordered its departure from the eastern city of Avdiivka on Saturday before sunrise, marking the nation's first significant battlefield setback since Bakhmut fell last year.
Biden administration blames Congress
"This is the cost of congressional inaction. The Ukrainians continue to fight bravely, but they are running low on supplies," said Adrienne Watson, a spokeswoman for the National Security Council.
This week, the Senate approved an emergency relief bill that included $60.1 billion for Ukraine. However, Speaker Mike Johnson of the House of Representatives has stated that he does not plan to put the bill to a vote. Thus, the bill's future in the chamber is unknown.
The Biden administration has been urging more cash for months, claiming that Ukraine is running low on air defense, artillery, and other supplies. Watson stated that the Senate bill has to be approved by the House.
“It is critical that the House approve additional Ukraine funding without delay so that we can provide Ukraine with the artillery ammunition and other critical equipment they need to defend their country,” she said.
Proponents of the aid are looking into methods to compel a vote on the Senate plan, which totals $95 billion and includes money to Taiwan, Israel, and Palestine in addition to humanitarian relief, or they are trying to put together a package that might be approved by Johnson.
Senior national security official John F Kirby stated on Thursday, February 15, that a lack of artillery ammunition was the cause of Ukraine's problems in Avdiivka.
According to Kirby, Congress had not approved extra financing, therefore the United States was unable to deploy more artillery shells to Ukraine.
Consequently, Russia's troops of soldiers entering the city were too strong for Ukraine's military to handle.
Internet mocks Biden administration
The Biden administration blaming the Congress for the fall of the Ukrainian city did not go down well with social media users.
A user wrote, "Who does he blame for his terrible policy?"
Another added, "Is the big guy mad that his money laundry business may get exposed."
Another person mentioned, "Were they going to pay the Russians to let them keep it?"
One user remarked, "I wasn't aware the House of Representatives had been promoted to commander of either army in Ukraine. Also, is the US at war in Ukraine then? Guess Biden unintentionally pulled the Bandaid right off what he's been up to in Ukraine - without a declared state of war."
