WASHINGTON, DC: On Friday, June 21, Monica Crowley, a former Fox News host, and Treasury Department official under Donald Trump's presidency, praised Cold War-era Sen Joseph McCarthy (R-Wis) while promoting a weird conspiracy theory reminiscent of the Red Scare.

According to a report by HuffPost, Crowley said in her remarks at the Faith & Freedom Coalition’s annual conference in Washington, “By the way, Sen Joe McCarthy was right. And he was trying to ring the bell in the 1950s about communist infiltration in our government.”

What else did Monica Crowley say during her speech at the Christian faith conference?

Crowley, who was chosen by former President Trump for a National Security Council position but turned it down in early 2017 due to a plagiarism scandal, stated that the deep state “removed Richard Nixon,” “went after Ronald Reagan,” and “is now going after Donald Trump.”

Crowley, who has previously promoted various conspiracy theories involving former President Barack Obama, remarked, “That deep state became very insidious, and in the 1950s smeared and attacked Joe McCarthy for speaking the truth about godless communism in [the] very halls of our government.”

Her remarks come decades after Senator Joe McCarthy's controversial allegations regarding communists and Soviet spies within the US government.

Less than three years before his death in 1957, the Senate voted to censure McCarthy in a 67-22 vote.

Furthermore, Crowley claimed that communists have been “grabbing control over all of the aspects of American life and culture.”

“They called it ‘the long march through the institutions,’” she said. “And now they have succeeded because they’ve been at it for so long.”

Earlier this year, former Trump adviser Steve Bannon expressed confidence that Crowley would be considered for the position of national security adviser in a potential second Trump administration, as the 78-year-old MAGA figure aims to reclaim the White House in November.

Another X user argued, "Too many lies in here to fact check with the amount of characters twitter allows. McCarthy died an alcoholic after his lies were exposed, Nixon was outed by his Republican Party after he orchestrated a crime. Maga has no problem spoon feeding lies to an uneducated audience." [sic]

Finally, this user tweeted, "'Senator Joe McCarthy was right' said no one until now. MAGA Republicans are determined to resurrect and normalize all of our most egregious history for their fascist agenda."
