LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In a recent episode of 'The Late Show,' host Stephen Colbert didn't mince words when addressing South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem's controversial revelation about euthanizing her puppy, Cricket.

Noem, a potential running mate for Republican figure Donald Trump, stirred up a storm with her admission in her forthcoming memoir, 'No Going Back: The Truth on What’s Wrong with Politics and How We Move America Forward.'

Stephen Colbert's hilarious rebuke

Colbert didn't waste any time in responding, delivering a sharp and direct rebuke to Noem, playfully dubbing her a "bad psycho governor" while humorously scolding her with a squirt bottle.

'The Late Show' host seized the opportunity to ridicule Noem's account of the incident, sarcastically remarking on the absurdity of her actions.

"No, no, bad psycho governor, no, sit down, bad, stay, stay away from dogs," Colbert exclaimed as he squirted water from the bottle. "Look, I know it sounds horrible, but it’s much worse," he added before saying, "Why did Cricket have to kick it?"

Noem's disturbing account

Noem's explanation in her book paints a troubling picture. She recounts an incident where Cricket, her wire-haired pointer puppy, allegedly attacked and killed some chickens belonging to a family she stopped to talk to.

In response to the puppy's behavior, Noem admitted to euthanizing Cricket, citing her as "untrainable" and expressing her disdain for the animal.

In her book, Noem writes, "I hated that dog... I found her 'untrainable.'"

Colbert didn't hold back in defending Cricket, suggesting that the puppy's behavior was typical for its age and dismissing Noem's characterization of the animal as untrainable.

Stephen Colbert's critique sparks outrage

The late-night host's commentary underscored the absurdity of Noem's actions, questioning the rationale behind euthanizing a young and exuberant dog for displaying natural behavior.

"Noem mentioned in her book that Cricket 'ruined the hunt' when she 'went crazy with excitement chasing all those birds and having the time of her life,'" Colbert quipped.

"Noem said in her book, 'It was then that I realized I had to put her to sleep,'" Colbert continued.

Noem's narrative of the events has ignited widespread condemnation, particularly on social media platforms, where users have expressed outrage and shared images of their own beloved pets.

Critics have lambasted Noem's decision, labeling it as cruel and unnecessary, with some likening it to animal abuse.

Noem's defense falls short

In response to the backlash, Noem has attempted to justify her actions, citing South Dakota law regarding dogs that attack livestock. She maintains that her decision was lawful and responsible, despite the controversy it has generated.

However, her attempts to defend herself have only fueled further criticism, with many questioning the morality of her actions and her suitability for public office.

"The fact is that South Dakota law states that dogs that attack and kill livestock can be put down. Since Cricket had shown aggressive behavior towards humans by biting them, I decided what I did," Noem stated.

"The book is full of many honest stories about my life, good and bad days, challenges, painful decisions and lessons learned," Noem continued. "What I’ve learned from my years of public service, especially leading South Dakota through COVID, is that people are looking for leaders who are authentic, willing to learn from the past, and don’t shy away from difficult challenges."

Internet condemns Noem's actions and character

The revelation of South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem euthanizing her puppy, Cricket, has sparked intense public backlash across social media platforms.

One user wrote, "I grew up on a farm. This is not what it is like to grow up on a farm! Noem is a psychopath. Period."

Another wrote, "She's banned in 4 Sioux reservations in her state for her racism and cruelty."

One user said, "She is legally blocked from setting foot in 18% of her own state because of insane comments she made about Native Americans there."

Another commented, "The details as written by Noem are even more disturbing. The kids coming home asking ‘where is cricket’ is so sad."

One said, "Only a psychopath can brag about killing a puppy!"

Another user replied, "I didn't think it was possible to be more disgusted by Kristi Noem than I was before I heard this."
