WASHINGTON, DC: Former President Donald Trump attacked his ex-attorney, Michael Cohen, a potential key witness in the New York Hush Money case, two days before the start of the trial, NBC News reported.

The hush money trial is set to commence on April 15, making it the first of four indictments against the ex-president to go for trial ahead of his crucial presidential election rematch with President Joe Biden in November.

The case stemmed from Trump paying money to adult film actress Stormy Daniels through Cohen to silence her about his extramarital affair right before the 2016 election.

Donald Trump accused of violating gag order

"Has Mark POMERANTZ been prosecuted for his terrible acts in and out of the D.A.'s Office. Has disgraced attorney and felon Michael Cohen been prosecuted for LYING?" The Republican White House hopeful wrote on his Truth Social platform on Saturday, April 13.

"Only TRUMP people get prosecuted by this Judge and these thugs! A dark day for our Country. MAGA2024!!!"

Trump's Truth Social rant has tested the limits of the gag order issued by Justice Juan Merchan in March, stopping him from making public remarks about possible witnesses "concerning their potential participation" in the criminal case, according to Politico.

The GOP presumptive nominee has previously teased the gag order by posting news articles and videos of Merchan's daughter criticizing her despite the gag order, which included the judge's family members.

Responding to the ex-president's post attacking Cohen, Trump campaign manager Steven Cheung condemned the gag order as "unconstitutional," preventing participation in "core political speech, which is entitled to the highest level of protection under the First Amendment."

In an April 13 interview on MSNBC's 'The Weekend,' Cohen revealed that he was "stressed, nervous" ahead of the trial, adding Trump's attacks "doesn't work."

"The attacks are relentless because that's what he does. He attacks the judge, he attacks the judge's daughter, he attacks witnesses, he attacks anyone and everyone again thinking that this is a positive strategy. It doesn't work. So yeah, I'm concerned. And a little, you know, a little apprehensive," the former Trump attorney stressed.
