WASHINGTON, DC: Robert F Kennedy Jr has apologized to former president Donald Trump after a video of their phone call was leaked on Monday, July 15.

The conversation occurred before Trump announced Senator JD Vance (R-Ohio) as his vice presidential pick during the first day of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, according to The Hill.

In the leaked conversation, Donald Trump could be heard on speakerphone expressing agreement with some of Kennedy Jr's vaccine stances.

The former president also encouraged Kennedy Jr, saying would love for the long-shot candidate to “do something,” because it would be “so good” for the independent presidential candidate.

According to the clip, Trump told him “we’re going to win."

Shortly after the footage of the phone call was posted online, Kennedy Jr offered his apology for the leak.

In his post on X (formerly Twitter), the anti-vaccine activist wrote, “When President Trump called me I was taping with an in-house videographer. I should have ordered the videographer to stop recording immediately."

“I am mortified that this was posted. I apologize to the president," he added.

During the call, Trump also mentioned that President Joe Biden was "very nice" during their conversation following the assassination attempt against him during the rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, July 13.

The 78-year-old politician was grazed in the ear by a bullet after shooter Thomas Matthew Crew opened fire at the rally, leaving an attendee killed and two others critically wounded.

Authorities fatally shot the assassin at the rally. “It felt like a giant — like the world’s largest mosquito,” Trump said of the bullet.

The former president further noted in the phone call to Kennedy Jr that he was shot with AR-15 weapon and added those are “pretty tough guns, right?"

Internet blasts RFK Jr's apology to Donald Trump after phone call leak

After Kennedy Jr offered his apology to Trump shortly after the leak of their phone call on Monday, July 15, netizens slammed the independent presidential candidate as they expressed his apology is unacceptable.

"Incredible unforced lapse of judgment…being aware of those around you during important & private discussions is rule #1. Once you breech another’s trust of privacy, it’s incredibly hard to regain it," a user tweeted while another user wrote, "Too late. Unacceptable!"



 



 

"You’re really going to pretend you didn’t do this on purpose? Give us a break," a netizen commented and another user tweeted, "But yet you had the phone on speaker? Dirty politics is what it sounds like."



 



 

One user wrote, "How about dropping out and throwing your endorsement behind him?" and a netizen tweeted, "You've always been trash. Now hopefully more people can finally realize that."
