WASHINGTON, DC: Van Jones expressed his deep concern following President Joe Biden's Covid-19 diagnosis, labeling it a "terrible day."

Comparing the situation to former president Donald Trump who faced an attempted assassination at a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday, July 13, Jones highlighted a stark contrast in perceptions of strength and weakness.

Van Jones says Democrats are 'coming apart' while Republicans are 'coming together'

On Wednesday, July 17, Jones did not mince words about the internal struggles within the Democratic Party over Joe Biden's presidential candidacy.

“Today is a terrible day. If you pull back and look at this thing, strength versus weakness, a bullet couldn’t stop Trump. A virus just stopped Biden,” he said on CNN.

“You’ve got nominees of this party getting their butts kissed. Biden’s getting his butt kicked by his own party. The Democrats are coming apart," he continued.

"The Republicans are coming together. That’s what’s happening. And at some point, this party has to look at the reality of that,” the Democratic strategist added.

Joe Biden tests positive for COVID-19

The White House announced on Wednesday that the President has tested positive for COVID-19 for the third time in the past two years.

The president has been experiencing "mild symptoms" and will self-isolate in Delaware and will “carry out all of his duties fully during that time," according to the White House.

He has begun treatment with Pfizer's antiviral therapy, Paxlovid, reported The Hill.

Shortly after the diagnosis was made public, Biden boarded Air Force One to return to Delaware. He assured reporters that he felt "good."

Series of setbacks for Joe Biden

The diagnosis adds to a series of challenges for Biden. His shaky debate performance on June 27 where he appeared to lack energy and stumble throughout the event sparked concerns among several Democrats who questioned his age, mental fitness and ability to defeat Trump and serve another four-year term.

Some high-ranking Democrats have publicly called on the president to withdraw from the 2024 race.

However, the 81-year-old commander-in-chief has maintained he will be able to beat Trump in November and rejected calls to drop out of the race despite widespread criticism.

Internet blasts Van Jones mocking Joe Biden's Covid-19 diagnosis

As Jones doubles down on Trump's strength and Biden's weak points, particularly questioning his ability following the Covid-19 diagnosis, netizens slammed the CNN analyst for his remarks.

"This guy is slowly changing sides," a user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote while another user wrote, "Trump fell asleep during his son’s speech at his own convention ( after being winged with a piece of glass from a teleprompter.) Their rhetoric must be boring. Your rhetoric is definitely boring."

One user tweeted, "Tired of this apologist" and another user wrote, "Well let’s see what happens Van!"

"Van Jones is terrible. I change the channel as soon as his lispy voice begins sucking up to whatever side seems to he ahead at the time. Opportunist," a netizen commented and a user wrote, "Such a phony person. His opinion changes like the wind. Such a tired act."
