NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: The House Oversubcommitee announced the online release of the videotapes of the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot for the public on Monday, April 22, 2024.

"Before @SpeakerJohnson was chosen in October 2023, January 6th video footage was only available on a limited basis, to be viewed in person in House Office Buildings," they wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

"At Speaker Johnson’s direction, and with his dedication to transparency, we have now released more than 20 thousand hours of USCP CCTV footage online for the American public," the tweet read.

Republicans had earlier campaigned for the release of the footage to help prove Donald Trump and his supporters' stance of the event not being an insurrection.

Former Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson had used selective videos received from the House GOP leadership back in May 2023 to claim, "These were not insurrectionists. These were sightseers," reported CBS News.

Speaker Mike Johnson also tweeted his message on the development, writing, "Making the Jan. 6th tapes available for all Americans to see was a promise I made when I became Speaker. We commend @RepLoudermilk for ensuring that this commitment is fulfilled for the American people."

Marjorie Taylor Greene's stance on the Jan 6 tapes

The US Representative of Georgia had initially advocated for the release of the tapes but later went back on her stance, citing security concerns back in June 2023, according to the Independent.

"If we released these videotapes just widely for the public — number one, we put the security of the Capitol at risk, because there’s over 1,700 video cameras,” she said in an interview.

"We also endanger many Americans that were simply standing on the Capitol grounds, maybe never even walked through the Capitol or committed any crimes, but they could have just walked further than where the barrier was simply because the barrier was torn down by the time they got there,” she added.

Greene's concerns stemmed from the fact that the tapes would make it blatantly public what went down that day at the Capitol and might help federal agents gain more public support in identifying and charging participants, who Greene maintains are not insurrectionists.

Marjorie Taylor Greene's rant on public release of January 6 tapes

Taking to the social media platform, Marjorie Taylor Greene retweeted Speaker Mike Johnson's post and attacked him for aiding in the political prosecution of Donald Trump and his fellow defendants.

She also renewed her call for Johnson to resign from the chair of House Speaker.

"You FULLY FUNDED the DOJ that is prosecuting J6 defendants and President Trump!!!" Greene began.

"You could have defunded these political prosecutions in your omnibus, fired US attorney Matthew Graves, fired Jack Smith, and demanded an end to this," she continued.

"You could pass my bill the Matthew Perna Act that would allow J6 defendants to move their trials out of DC where they can NEVER receive a fair trial. By the way, that includes Pres Trump!" she further said.

"But instead, you did nothing and now praying grandmas get sent to prison for walking in and out of the Capital and Biden’s DOJ is going to try to lock President Trump up for the rest of his life which is a death sentence! Stop lying and pandering to these poor people. Resign!" Greene added.

Internet slams Marjorie Taylor Greene for her rant on X

Netizens trolled Marjorie Taylor Greene over her rant and asked her why was she scared of the release of the tapes.

"#MoscowMarge has been so triggered lately! 🤣," wrote a social media user.

"Can you resign? Literally that's the tweet, just resign," stated another.

"The fact you thought those things were ever going to happen really paints a picture of how detached from reality you are," jibed another.

"Traitors get prosecuted. Why does that upset you?" asked another user.

"Are you getting a little bit scared now Marge? You only wish you had the ability to fire Jack Smith. #CitizenTrump will be going to prison & so will you," commented one person.

"What an unhinged rant. I think Marge is getting triggered by her lack of power. Republicans are tired of your endless whining and ridiculous demands," noted another.
