WASHINGTON, DC: In the wake of her recent heated confrontation during a House Oversight Committee meeting, Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has stirred fresh controversy by posting an upside-down flag on her social media account.

The post came accompanied by a call for Americans to follow suit in solidarity with Justice Samuel Alito and the Donald Trump.

What is the upside-down flag controversey?

The image in question, captured on January 17, 2021 outside the home of conservative Justice Alito, was first reported by The New York Times on Thursday, May 16. Notably, the upside-down flag had been flown at his Virginia home in the days following the January 6 attack on the Capitol.

Democrats lambasted Alito for what they saw as implicit support for the Trump-inspired violence.

In her post, Greene accused Democrats of wielding the "full power of the justice system the minute they took power" against the former president and called on citizens to fly their flags upside-down in protest.

"Now Democrats are going after Justice Alito for an upside-down flag being flown at his house," she wrote. "WE SHOULD ALL BE FLYING THE FLAG UPSIDE DOWN!!!"

Samuel Alito claims no involvement in flag controversy

The upside-down flag has become a symbol associated with the "Stop the Steal" movement, which organized the protests in Washington, DC, on January 6. Alito attributed the gesture to his wife's response to anti-Trump signs in their neighbor's yard.

The controversy surrounding Alito's use of the symbol, now echoed by Greene, prompted Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Dick Durbin (D-IL) to call for Alito's recusal from all cases involving the 2020 election.

This demand comes at a critical juncture as Trump's case on presidential immunity is currently pending before the Supreme Court.

Netizens condem MTG unpatriotic symbol of Donald Trump insurrection

Netizens came down hard on Marjorie Taylor Greene for her take on the flag controversy.

A user tweeted, "Marge is a confederate soldier not an American public servant. She has taken over Congress and wants to destroy the nation from inside. She admits it. Her public agenda is reinstalling a criminal traitor she’s obstructing justice for and breaking up the United States of America."

Another added, "Oh shut your mouth, Bigfoot. Everything you say is a lie."

"So tired of these bad-built crybaby seditious trunts with the stunts. GFY," stated a user.

"Arrest the beast!" read a tweet. "This type of behavior from a member of the House is beyond the pale, @SpeakerJohnson. She is unfit for office," stated a user.
