WASHINGTON, DC: Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) took to Twitter to claim that President Joe Biden was planning to assassinate former President Donald Trump

The controversy erupted following Trump's appearance in a New York criminal court, where he faces 34 counts of falsifying business records.

Donald Trump alleges DOJ authorized lethal force in Mar-a-Lago search

After the court session, Trump reiterated his claims of political persecution to reporters and on his social media platform, Truth Social.

He accused the Department of Justice of authorizing the FBI to use lethal force during the search of his Mar-a-Lago estate in August 2022, a search that uncovered boxes of government documents Trump had taken from the White House.

Trump has pleaded not guilty to charges of willfully retaining classified documents. The ex-president was not present at Mar-a-Lago when the search warrant was executed.

Former President Donald Trump listens as his attorney Todd Blanche speaks during a press conference at 40 Wall Street after a pre-trial hearing on March 25, 2024 in New York City. Judge Juan Merchan scheduled Trump's criminal trial to begin on April 15, which would make it the first criminal prosecution of a former American president. Trump was charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records last year, which prosecutors say was an effort to hide a potential sex scandal, both before and after the 2016 election. Marjorie Taylor Greene amplifies Donald Trump's allegations against Biden Administration

Rep Greene seized upon Trump's allegations, amplifying the claim. "I made sure that he knew," Greene posted. "The Biden DOJ and FBI were planning to assassinate Pres Trump and gave the green light. Does everyone get it yet???!!!! What are Republicans going to do about it? I tried to oust our Speaker who funded Biden’s DOJ AND FBI, but Democrats stopped it."

Greene's comments did not come out of nowhere. In April, during an appearance on Alex Jones' show, she suggested that Democrats might want to eliminate Trump. "They want President Trump dead," she said. "They want to lock him up in jail for the rest of his life, so that he dies in jail, and they want to take away his Secret Service protection so that he is murdered somewhere in jail, possibly. This is how serious they are."

Social media erupts with outrage at MTG's assassination claims

A user tweeted, "Oh shut your dumb sasquatch mouth Marge, everything you say is a lie." Another added, "He’s not dead. If they wanted him dead, he’d be dead." A third said, "You need to get to the nearest psych ward fast….you have gone totally batshit crazy."

"It's nerve-racking to feel targeted. Imagine how #PresidentBiden feels every time Trump and his goons speak. MAGA extremists often choose violence. #Cult45 #DemsUnited," noted a user.

"Apparently, you don’t realize how important US national secrets are. Read the espionage and sabotage acts to get an idea of what the US will do to protect its secrets," read a tweet.

"Hey, remember that presidential immunity you guys decided you wanted while someone else holds office?" questioned a user. "Wow, that's a pretty serious accusation. Got any actual evidence to back it up? Just throwing stuff like this around without proof makes it hard to believe," said another.
