NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA: Super Bowl LIX was already set to be historic with the Kansas City Chiefs facing off against the Philadelphia Eagles, but things got even more interesting when President Donald Trump showed up - making history as the first sitting US president to attend the NFL’s biggest event.

But while most videos show he was met with resounding cheers, his critics insist the stadium booed and jeered at him. And just like that, a social media war broke out.

To make things even messier, some Trump supporters insisted it was actually Taylor Swift who got the negative reaction.

Chaos ensues as Trump enters the stadium

All eyes were on Caesars Superdome in New Orleans as President Trump made his hotly-anticipated entrance.

Then, the clips hit the internet. Some videos on X (formerly Twitter) claimed that the stadium erupted in loud boos when Trump’s face popped up on the jumbotron. In one particularly viral clip, the crowd appeared to be jeering at the president — fueling claims that his Super Bowl appearance wasn’t as well received as he’d hoped, according to Distractify.

But then another wave of clips surfaced, showing Trump being greeted with overwhelming cheers.

One YouTube commenter quickly called out the viral video showing Trump being booed: "I watched the game, Trump was cheered. This video is edited." But another user wasn’t having it: "You watched the game on TV or from the stadium? Because the broadcast was definitely edited … That fool was BOO’D."

The authenticity of certain clips came under scrutiny. Social media sleuths pointed out that at least one of the most shared videos —allegedly showing Trump being booed — was actually old footage from 2019.

One user even called out the misleading edit, "Melania wasn’t at the game… try making it more believable next time."

Another wrote, "You can add all the artificial sound you want. We all watched the cheers live."

Trump’s supporters wasted no time in pointing to his rising poll numbers, suggesting that the whole “booing” narrative was nothing more than spin.

"Trump is polling the highest he’s ever recorded and Democrats are polling their lowest in all history. The 'he got boo’ed at the Super Bowl' isn’t working," one declared.

Someone else added, "Why do liberals insist on lying to themselves? Anyone who watched it live heard the crowd erupt in applause when they showed Trump during the national anthem."

Another pointed out, "Listen with headphones—you can hear it’s a looping track. This is about as TDS as it can get." (For those who don’t know, “TDS” stands for “Trump Derangement Syndrome.")

But was Taylor Swift also booed?

Some Trump supporters appeared to shift the focus to Taylor Swift, who was also in attendance at the game to cheer on her boyfriend Travis Kelce.

According to some of the president's most vocal defenders, it wasn’t him but Swift who got the worst reaction from the crowd.

"They [Taylor and President Trump] were both booed. I was watching it live. The booing started before she was shown on the jumbotron and while Trump was on," another user claimed.

With two different “boos” narratives playing out online, things got even more complicated. Was Swift being heckled because of her support for Biden? Was Trump really the one getting the jeers? Or was this just another instance of social media spinning reality into whatever story people wanted to believe?

If you’re Team Trump, you’re probably convinced the entire stadium roared with applause and any clips suggesting otherwise are either fake, old, or deceptively edited. If you’re on the other side, you’re pointing to footage that shows a very different reaction.

The truth is probably somewhere in the middle. It’s clear that some parts of the stadium cheered loudly for Trump, while others may have booed him.
