‘It feels empty’: Travis Kelce gets emotional while paying tribute to his ‘tag team’ brother Jason Kelce

KANSAS, MISSOURI: The Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce broke down in tears as he spoke about his brother Jason Kelce’s retirement from the NFL on their podcast 'New Heights.'

Travis Kelce said his older brother, who played 13 seasons as a center for the Philadelphia Eagles, was always a step ahead of him and a source of guidance and support in his football career.

“In this game alone, you’ve always been a step ahead of me and it’s always been like I’ve had that flotation device right there,” Travis Kelce said, becoming emotional.

“To have you out of it man, it feels empty. And it definitely feels like it’s complete, you know, it was a success," Taylor Swift's beau added.

He also reminisced about their childhood and how they played various sports together, forming a tag team that lasted until the NFL.

“It was cool being the tag team with you,” Travis Kelce continued, “It was a fun a** journey to watch. Like I said yesterday, man, I just appreciate you showing me the way and bringing us all on the journey with you.”



 

Jason Kelce retires as a Super Bowl champion and a leader

Jason Kelce, 36, announced his retirement from the NFL on Monday, March 4, in a heartfelt press conference in Philadelphia, where he spent his entire career.

He thanked his coaches, teammates, fans, and family for their love and support, and reflected on his achievements and challenges.

Travis Kelce, 34, was present at the press conference, along with Jason Kelce’s wife Kylie Kelce, and their parents Donna and Ed Kelce.



 

They all shed tears as they listened to Jason Kelce’s speech, which lasted 45 minutes.

“I couldn’t have been more proud listening to you yesterday and it’s been a lot of emotions, a lot of sad emotions, a lot of exciting emotions," Travis said.

"I mean, you got the f****** world in your palm right now, dude,” Travis Kelce said on the podcast.

“You got three little ones that I know you’re dying to watch grow up and it’s just a lot of exciting future things that we have to look forward to," the Kansas City Chiefs tight end added.

He then wrapped up his slew of praises with a joke, “Yeah, so back to the speech. Can I see the Kleenex?”

Kylie Kelce shares her reaction and her husband Jason Kelce's plans

Kylie Kelce, who married Jason Kelce in 2018, also spoke to NBC on Tuesday about her husband’s retirement.

“I think I was the only one that had heard the speech before he went into it,” she said.

“I think it was just a perfect summary of 13 years. It was an incredible run he had as a player in the NFL, Kylie added.

Jason also praised his wife Kylie in his long speech, describing how he has enjoyed the "best years of my career with Kylie by my side,”

Jason said, “Every accolade I have ever received has come with her in my life. She has brought the best out of me through love, devotion, support, honesty, intelligence and, of course, a swift kick in the a** from time to time.”



 

As for what’s next for the Super Bowl champion and future Hall of Famer, Kylie Kelce said he would probably continue podcasting with his brother, and maybe join him in some wild tailgating at his games.
