NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: During a seldom-seen TV appearance on MSNBC with host Rachel Maddow, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis affirmed her resolve to remain undeterred by the intimidation and influence attempts from Republicans across different levels of government.

As per Newsweek, the House Judiciary Committee has threatened to hold Willis in contempt of Congress if she fails to comply with a congressional subpoena which is part of the committee's investigation into her office's utilization of federal funds.

Willis emphasized her commitment to fulfilling her duties, which currently involve overseeing a prominent case against former President Donald Trump.

Fani Willis discusses relocation due to threats since taking office

As the legal proceedings in the Georgia criminal case have stalled due to a Trump appeal, Willis shed light on the impact of maintaining heightened personal security measures over an extended duration.

"It’s been happening since about a month after I took office—I began to get threats," shared Willis, who commenced her term in January 2021. She disclosed that these threats eventually compelled her to relocate from her residence.

Willis elaborated that a significant portion of the threats "are racial in nature," possibly stemming from "some recent cases"—likely referencing the RICO indictment of Trump and 18 associates from last summer.

“It’s a very interesting way to live, but it’s well worth it to have the honor of being the first female district attorney in Fulton County,” Willis said. “It pales in comparison to what my victims are going through.”

Willis, who is campaigning for re-election and faces a Democratic primary on May 21, said, “And the reality is, one of the reasons we are upsetting people is we’re so successful here in Fulton County. I have the third largest crime drop in America. We have it because we’re taking a balanced approach; both unapologetically going after gangs and violent criminals and anyone who should violate the law in my county."

“And we’re also doing programs. It has been a huge sacrifice, but it’s well worth it for my community,” she added.

Fanis Willis says criticisms motivate her to move forward

“I can’t explain to you how much I love the work that I do. I can’t explain to you how loved I feel by my community. You really should feel sorry for those that are trying to deter me from my work. It doesn’t do anything but motivate me to continue to work and to work hard,” Willis claimed.

“And so I’m not someone that’s going to be broken. But certainly, it has caused me to get thicker skin or to be more resilient, to dig deeper, to work harder. But what it has not done is deter me from my work,” she added.

In her opening segment, Maddow not only discussed the threats against Willis but also highlighted how Georgia Republicans are swiftly enacting legislation to facilitate the removal of prosecutors like Willis from cases.

Maddow also expressed skepticism regarding special prosecutor Nathan Wade's decision to step down from the case due to his previous romantic relationship with Willis, noting that the Georgia Supreme Court has ruled that even having married lawyers on opposing sides of litigation does not constitute a conflict of interest.

Netizens claim 'nobody threatened' Fani Willis

After the MSNBC interview aired, several viewers slammed Willis for what they perceive to be fake threats.

One viewer said, "This lady was given the opportunity of a lifetime and custody with what is supposedly one of the most important cases to entire entire party. And she couldn’t even keep her sh*t straight for 18 months that tells you a lot.."

Another viewer noted, "No one has threatened her.. all theatrics. But she does need to be be removed from office and put on trial for her illegal activities."

Someone else wrote, "Fani on a mission from God."

A follower observed, "Because she's a power-mad egomaniac with a chip on her shoulder, and that combination will be her downfall."

One comment read, "Nobody threatened her, at least from the Trumps side, her behavior has helped him."

Another said, "She screwed this whole thing up with her own bad behavior. Nice try at deflecting though."

"She should be in prison," argued one person.
