MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA: Law enforcement expert Tom Manger, on Wednesday, January 7, criticized Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey for using harsh language after an ICE officer shot and killed a woman

The expert warned that the mayor's angry words could make a tense situation even more dangerous by asserting that it 'could escalate things.'

Tom Manger warns mayor’s angry words could escalate things

Tom Manger, an analyst for MS NOW, said the mayor’s reaction was 'not helpful.'

Manger specifically disliked the mayor telling ICE to leave town, noting, “You know, when elected officials get out in front of an investigation and give you their conclusions, I don’t know how helpful that is. I hear what the mayor is saying.”

Manger added, “He’s certainly speaking from the heart. But for him to say to for ICE to get the F out of Minneapolis, that’s not helpful. It’s not gonna happen…it could escalate things.

Tom Manger praises police chief while rebuking mayor's comments

Manger, however, did salute Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara for saying 'the right things.'

Manger noted that the chief’s own description of the shooting 'brings into question the original DHS narrative that this was in self-defense.'

Even though Manger shared the chief's concerns about the shooting, he was firm in his belief that the mayor should not have used such explosive language.

He believes that jumping to conclusions only increases the anger in the community.

Manger stated, “No one should jump to conclusions told there’s until the investigations complete, until we have more for information. But all this tells me is that that the tensions are high. They’re going to remain high. And the mayor’s comments aren’t going to reduce any of the tensions between ICE and this city.”

Mayor Jacob Frey blasts federal agents

The conflict started on Wednesday after an ICE agent shot a 37-year-old woman identified as Renee Nicole.

While federal officials said the agent acted in self-defense, Mayor Frey strongly disagreed at a news conference.

He accused the agents of causing trouble in the city and said, “What they are doing is causing chaos and distrust. They’re ripping families apart. They’re sowing chaos on our streets, and, in this case, quite literally killing people.”

He added, “So, they are already trying to spin this as an action of self-defense. Having seen the video of myself, I want to tell everybody, directly, that is bullsh*t. This was an agent recklessly using power that resulted in somebody dying, getting killed.”
