Renee Nicole Good, 37, identified by mom after Minneapolis ICE shooting: ‘An amazing human being’
MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA: A woman who was fatally shot during an ICE operation in Minneapolis on Wednesday, January 7, has been identified as Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old Twin Cities resident.
The incident also prompted public statements from Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. Authorities provided details about the shooting, the condition of the involved agent, and the actions that led to the fatal encounter.
Renee Nicole Good identified in ICE shooting
Good, 37, was identified as the woman who was fatally shot by an ICE agent during the Trump administration’s latest immigration crackdown in the city.
According to information released by the Department of Homeland Security, ICE agents were conducting an operation when they encountered Good in her SUV. DHS stated that Good was one of several individuals who reportedly used their vehicles to block the roadway in an effort to prevent agents from proceeding.
Good’s mother expressed confusion over claims that her daughter was involved in an ICE protest, stating that Good was “not part of anything like that at all.” Good was identified by her mother hours after she was killed. Speaking to the Star Tribune, her mother, Donna Ganger, described Renee as “one of the kindest people I’ve ever known.”
She further added, “She was extremely compassionate. She’s taken care of people all her life. She was loving, forgiving and affectionate. She was an amazing human being.”
Officials stated that ICE agents repeatedly ordered Good to exit her SUV. Instead, authorities said she accelerated toward one of the officers, striking and pushing him with her vehicle. As the officer spun toward the driver’s side window, he fired three shots into the car.
The fatal shooting occurred as a result of what DHS described as a defensive response by the ICE agent.
Soon after the shooting, a video of a Minnesota woman sitting in the snow with her dog near the incident site has gone viral. She is heard telling a person filming her that ICE agents had just shot and killed her wife (Good).
“They killed my wife. I don’t know what to do,” the woman is heard in the footage, as a damaged SUV is visible in the distance behind her.
“We stopped to videotape, and they shot her in the head,” she cried.
“We have a 6-year-old at school,” the woman added. “We’re new here."
ICE agent shooting details and DHS response
Noem addressed the incident during a news conference on Wednesday evening. She confirmed that the ICE agent who fired the shots was treated at a local hospital following the incident and has since been released.
Noem stated that the agent is now with his family.
The fatal shooting occurred as a result of what DHS described as a defensive response by the ICE agent.
During her remarks, Noem emphasized the experience and training of the officer involved.
“The fact of the matter is, he’s an experienced officer. He’s been in situations like this before, and he certainly has been out there and followed his training today,” Noem said.

She reiterated DHS’s position that the agent acted in accordance with his training under circumstances he believed posed a serious threat. Noem further alleged that the situation escalated when Good proceeded to “weaponize her vehicle” and attempted to run a law enforcement officer over.
Noem further said, “The ICE officer, fearing for his life and the other officers around him and the safety of the public, fired defensive shots, He used his training to save his own life and that of his colleagues.”
She encouraged Americans to pray for those affected by the incident. She specifically asked for prayers for the ICE agent involved and for Good’s loved ones.
