WASHINGTON, DC: In a fresh filing on Friday, May 31, special counsel Jack Smith requested that the judge presiding over former President Donald Trump's classified documents case, prevent him from publicly endangering law enforcement, according to The Hill.

Notably, his most recent request is similar to his first, which was made last week. It asks Judge Aileen Cannon to impose a limited gag order based on the ex-president's unfounded allegations that the Biden administration was ready to use lethal force against him in 2022 when looking for classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago property.

Additionally, the new plea was filed day after Trump, the first former president to be convicted of a felony in New York, was found guilty in his hush money trial.

The filing states, "Trump’s repeated mischaracterization of these facts in widely distributed messages as an attempt to kill him, his family, and Secret Service agents has endangered law enforcement officers involved in the investigation and prosecution of this case and threatened the integrity of these proceedings."

It added, "A restriction prohibiting future similar statements does not restrict legitimate speech. Trump’s conditions of release should therefore be modified to prohibit similar communications going forward."

Earlier in May, Trump asserted in an email intended for fundraising that President Biden was 'locked & loaded and ready to take me out'.

The statements were a departure from the usual wording in paperwork written when FBI investigators were getting ready to raid the Florida resort.

However, it only permits the use of lethal force 'when necessary', such as in situations when an individual would put law enforcement in immediate danger.

Furthermore, the search was deliberately finished when Trump and his family were out of town, as Smith's petition makes clear.

Smith wrote, "The FBI followed these entirely standard and appropriate practices here. Trump, however, has grossly distorted these standard practices by mischaracterizing them as a plan to kill him, his family, and US Secret Service agents."

He added, "Those deceptive and inflammatory assertions irresponsibly put a target on the backs of the FBI agents involved in this case, as Trump well knows."

Cannon turned down Smith's initial motion earlier this week, citing logistical concerns as the cause for the indefinite postponement of the case's trial. She criticized the prosecutors for neglecting to contact former President Trump's legal team over the request to restrict his speech.

Moreover, she also turned down a motion from Trump's attorneys to condemn the prosecutors on the issue.
