MIAMI, FLORIDA: A woman tragically lost her life after she was struck by a flatbed dumpster truck while she was pushing her baby in a stroller in Miami on Wednesday, February 14, police said. In a press release, the Miami Police Department said that officers were called to Northeast Biscayne Boulevard and 22nd Street regarding a pedestrian hit by a truck.

Police said the woman, later identified as Jaklin Anna Sabag, 33, was "pinned under" the truck.

What did the authorities say?

"An eight-month-old baby boy that was being pushed in a stroller by the woman (his mother), was being held by a witness who came to his rescue," the department said, adding "The baby stroller was hit but the baby appeared safe. Miami Fire Rescue responded and declared the female deceased on scene."

The infant was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital Trauma and doctors confirmed he was uninjured, police added.

The driver did not see Jaklin Anna Sabag crossing the street

According to Fox-affiliate WSVN, investigators believe the driver did not see the mother crossing the street.

“The victim in this case was crossing in front of the truck, not at the pedestrian crosswalk," Miami Police Officer Michael Vega told the station, adding "The truck, obviously, didn’t see that she was in front of it and proceeded to move forward as she was still in front of the truck, and unfortunately, he ran over her."

No charges have been announced and an investigation is ongoing, police said.

Juan Camilo Giron, who was headed to the gym when the tragic accident unfolded, told CBS-affiliate WFOR that the driver was visibly shaken. "He put his hands in his head as he was just walking in circles," he added. WSVN reported that the driver was cooperative with detectives.

“Beside our officers here, we also have our police chaplains, two of them, that are here talking to them and trying to comfort them because how heartbreaking is it that on Valentine’s Day, you’re crossing, you’re just driving, and you just killed somebody,” Vega said, adding “It’s heartbreaking."

What did Jaklin Anna Sabag's neighbor say?

People who stopped to see what happened were shaken when they heard the details of this accident.

“Everyone just needs to be aware of their surroundings, aware of people on bicycles riding their bicycles,” said neighbor Tasha Insua. “They need to be aware of the cars, cars need to be aware of the people on the bicycle, people crossing the street. Just take a little bit more time. Somebody just lost their mom, baby just lost their mom,” she added.
