WASHINGTON, DC: Representative James Clyburn, D-SC, announced his support for Vice President Kamala Harris' presidential candidacy on Tuesday, July 2, if President Joe Biden agreed to resign from his reelection bid while expressing his hope that the ticket would remain Biden-Harris.

A steadfast supporter of Biden, Clyburn stated to MSNBC host Andrea Mitchell on Tuesday that if Harris were to emerge as the Democratic presidential nominee, the party as a whole would have to "bolster" its backing for her.

He also attacked those who, given her low polling, might want to "work around" her and select a different candidate for the top spot.

"We should do everything we can to bolster her, whether it’s in second place or the top of the ticket," Clyburn said.

Rep James Clyburn was asked about VP Kamala Harris' low popularity among voters

Andrea Mitchell brought up the subject of ongoing calls among Democratic officials, voters, and members of the liberal media to remove Joe Biden from the Democratic Party's presidential candidacy after his debate performance was severely criticized last week.

She specifically asked him about his thoughts on Harris taking Biden's spot at the top of the ticket, mentioning that some people were leery of her because of her low polling position.

"Congressman, how would you feel if there is a decision for him to step down? If he decides that, and he has to decide that, or if the party pressures him to do that? How would you feel if they worked around and tried to go around Kamala Harris because of her lack of high poll numbers and popularity broadly based? Do you think it is hers to have if it’s not his?" she asked, per Fox News.

"I will support her, if he were to step aside," Clyburn said. "But I’m going to support her going forward and sometime in the future. I want this ticket to continue to be Biden-Harris. And then we will see what happens after the next election."

The Democratic representative then said he was uncomfortable with the thought that anyone would try to avoid her to look for another candidate. "No. This party should not, in any way, do anything to work around Ms. Harris," he declared.

James Clyburn says Joe Biden's supporters are 'dug in' on retaining him as a presidential candidate

The Democratic Party lawmaker informed Andrea Mitchell that party members have told him they are "dug in" on Joe Biden as the nominee after the debate, even though they have discussed the president's possible replacement earlier in the conversation.

"I can tell you what I found in Wisconsin, I did about 10 events in three cities … and the Democratic voters, what I call the grassrooters, they are dug in on this," he said. "Joe Biden may decide otherwise. But I think the people that I have been around the last three days are dug in in their support for Joe Biden."

Internet is strictly against VP Kamala Harris becoming the Presidential nominee for Democrats

Netizens criticized James Clyburn after he expressed his interest in wanting Kamala Harris to fill the shoes of the current US President.

One X (formerly Twitter) user penned, "I cross party lines, if Harris is named to replace Biden, I will not vote Democrat…..I don’t what sex or race but I would vote for almost anyone over her."

"I will support Biden’s dog if that’s what it takes," another wrote.

One remarked, "Bahahhahahahahaha she'll get destroyed by trump."

Someone else penned, "Clyburn is as competent as Joe is he has always seen skin color in everything he does."

"God save us if Kamala steps in," commented one user.

"The Dems are actually confused right now, cuz what will Kamala know she would do against Putin and other USA foes," remarked another.
