'Worse idea': Tim Ryan's call to replace Biden with Kamala Harris in November elections divides Internet
WASHINGTON, DC: Former Representative Tim Ryan (D-Ohio) has suggested that Vice President Kamala Harris should replace President Joe Biden on the Democratic ticket this fall.
Ryan's call for a change comes after Biden’s poor performance in a recent debate, which has raised concerns among some Democrats about his viability as the party's candidate for the 2024 election.
Tim Ryan says Kamala Harris will destroy Donald Trump
Tim Ryan took to social media and penned an editorial in Newsweek, arguing that the Democratic Party needs a generational shift and that Kamala Harris is the right person to lead the charge.
"We have to rip the band aid off! Too much is at stake," Ryan wrote on X (formerly Twitter). He believes Harris can effectively take on former President Donald Trump in a debate.
"@VP has significantly grown into her job, she will destroy Trump in debate, highlight choice issue, energize our base, bring back young voters and give us generational change. It’s time!" Ryan added in the post.

In his Newsweek editorial, Ryan expressed his admiration for Biden but stressed that he is not the candidate for 2024.
"Joe Biden’s debate performance was deeply troubling," he wrote. "But it isn’t just about a 90-minute debate and a terrible performance. This election needs to be about generational change — something about which I have been shouting for more than a year now."
Tim Ryan says Joe Biden’s debate performance is the collapse of generational 'bridge'
Tim Ryan described Joe Biden’s debate performance as a collapse of the generational "bridge" that the president had promised.
"Witnessing Joe Biden struggle was heartbreaking. And we must forge a new path forward," he wrote.
Ryan, who left Congress in 2022 after losing the Ohio Senate race to Senator JD Vance (R), stressed the need for generational change within the Democratic Party according to The Hill.
"Those who say that a Harris candidacy is a greater risk than the Joe Biden we saw the other night and will continue to see are not living in reality," Ryan wrote.
"It is not just utterly preposterous for the haters to say that, it is insulting." He argued that Harris can bring the much-needed generational change the Democratic Party requires.
"The Democratic Party’s Achilles heel for years has been a lack of upward mobility for fresh, young leaders," he wrote.
"When young candidates like JFK, Bill Clinton, or Barack Obama carry the torch for Democrats, we win. Now a fresh, charismatic candidate can do it again," he added.
Internet reacts to Tim Ryan's proposal seeking Kamala Harris to run for President
Tim Ryan's proposal has generated a mixed reaction online. Some users supported Ryan's idea, while others criticized it.
"Please let the Democrat Party be delusional enough to do something this dumb," wrote one user on X.
Another critic commented, "I love waking up to jokes on X. Thanks for the cackle."
"This is an EXCELLENT idea," one more user wrote in support. "I can’t think of a worse idea," argued another.
Some defended Biden, attributing his poor debate performance to being overprepared and having a sore throat.
"Biden is definitely the better choice than her," argued one.
"Geez.. just because Biden was over prepared with a sore throat.. harsh," wrote one defending the president.
