WASHINGTON, DC: House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer appeared to be on the brink of abandoning the impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden based on recent reports and his own public statements.

However, during a fiery interview on Fox News' 'Sunday Morning Futures', Comer dramatically shifted his tone, outright declaring that the president has committed "many crimes" and hinting that his committee would soon hold the incumbent accountable, as per Mediaite.

James Comer asserts that the House Oversight Committee will deal with President Joe Biden during explosive Fox News interview

In the interview with Fox News host Maria Bartiromo, Comer celebrated the recent criminal referrals sent to the Department of Justice (DOJ) for Hunter Biden and James Biden, accusing them of lying to Congress.

Yet, the Kentucky Rep's main focus was firmly on President Biden, who he believes was the "central figure" in a global influence-peddling scheme.

Comer claimed, "Joe Biden was the central figure in selling the brand and convincing the shady characters around the globe that his family was essentially speaking for him — and to go ahead and wire that money to those shell accounts."

Subsequently, Bartiromo pressed the lawmaker on why the committee had only issued criminal referrals for perjury and not for more serious allegations like money laundering or corruption.

The House Oversight Committee chairman explained, "We’re just beginning, Maria. A lot of those crimes that the Bidens have committed, the statute of limitations has run out … But we’re going to deal with those, and we’re going to deal with Joe Biden."

He added, "Remember, this is an investigation of Joe Biden. Hunter Biden, Jim Biden, Eric Sherwin, Devon Archer, these are all witnesses in an investigation of Joe Biden."

Comer continued, "This was always about Joe Biden. We’re going to do everything we can to hold Hunter Biden and all the different shady associates accountable. This is just the beginning. But the next step will be accountability for Joe Biden. I think everyone that’s kept up with this investigation will be very eager to see what the next step is."

Bartiromo interpreted this as a signal that House Republicans were close to issuing a criminal referral against the POTUS. She probed further, asking Comer directly if a criminal referral for money laundering was imminent.

"I think that it’s no secret Joe Biden’s committed many crimes. And I think that you’re going to see a report very soon," responded Comer.

The Kentucky politician further noted, "That report is imminent. That’ll probably be an interim report that updates everyone on the crimes that Biden and his administration have committed throughout this investigation and through the years of the Obama-Biden administration."

His bold assertion has been met with skepticism, even within the GOP. Rep Don Bacon recently told NBC he had not seen evidence of a "specific crime" committed by President Biden. Rep Doug LaMalfa echoed this sentiment on CNN, stressing the need for a high bar for impeachment and stating, "I don’t think we are there yet."

Internet reacts to Rep James Comer's explosive statements about President Joe Biden

A netizen wrote, "Comer is just embarrassing himself at this point," and another quipped, "Biden is guilty of making the stock market rise, on strong job and wage gains, while bringing down gas and egg prices."

One accused Comer of outright lying, writing, "James Comer flat-out lies, just like the rest of his party of traitors." "Don't be fooled - this isn't and never was about any alleged wrongdoing by Biden. The whole point of this exercise is to create an equivalence with the moral and criminal morass of their orange messiah," argued someone else.

"Not a single person has gone under oath and accused President Biden of committing a crime ... not one. All these right-wing nuts come on cable news to gaslight the rubes into sending them donations, but not one of them will repeat what they said under oath," claimed another person.

An individual observed, "Comer has been spewing this nonsense for two years now with nothing to show for it," and one more added, "Comer’s a good reason the house should flip back to dems. He’s a do-nothing gasbag."
