WASHINGTON, DC: James Comer has floated a bizarre conspiracy theory about Tim Walz.

The House Oversight Committee chairman appeared on Fox News where he claimed that China could have been “grooming” the running mate of Kamala Harris, as reported by The Daily Beast.

James Comer claims China has ‘spy rings in our universities’

Host Jesse Watters said, “If an American goes to China 30 times in the ’90s, they have surveillance footage of him. They have surveillance footage probably of his honeymoon night.”

“What kind of compromise is that? [Democrats] were worried about Trump and a pee tape that was all made up. This is serious business,” he stated.

To which, Comer replied, “It’s very serious. China thinks long-term. It’s very possible that China would be grooming an up-and-coming rising star in the political process to try to have a foothold in our government.”

He further explained, “They’ve done this in the military. We’ve caught them with spy rings in our universities. This is how China operates.”

James Comer says the GOP’s ‘trying to gather information’ about Tim Walz

The 52-year-old politician also asserted that it “looks like Walz’s ties might be for ideology.”

“This is something we should be concerned about, and we’re trying to gather as much information as we can, as quick as we can, to present to the American people,” Comer added.

Tim Walz had been to China for work

However, this was not the first time allegations have been made against Walz while bringing up his past school teaching experience in China.

Walz reportedly spent around a year as a high school teacher in China through Harvard University’s WorldTeach program after getting a degree in social science education in 1989.

In an old interview, he also reportedly shared, “I lived in China, and as I said I’ve been there about 30 times, but if someone tells you they’re an expert on China they’re probably not telling you the truth.”

Walz’s critics say he’s ‘dangerous’

However, after he was picked by Harris as her running mate, Michael Lucci, the founder of an anti-CCP think tank, wrote on X, “Kamala Harris tapping Tim Walz for VP is a case study in how the Chinese Communist Party’s sub-national influence strategies can translate into an advocate in the White House. China cultivated Walz as a teacher and a state legislator. He lived in China and visited ~30 times.”

“Tim Walz doesn’t see China as a problem. This is a guy who will have to learn the truth of the vicious nature of the dict*torship in Beijing. Communist tyranny may not be a bad thing to Walz but the rest of the world knows. Walz is dangerous,” James Hutton, who was a Trump appointee in the US Department of Veterans Affairs, added.
