“We are family. Something like this brings people so much closer. Jake and I were sitting shoulder-to-shoulder doing an interview… Just feeling him there is emotional and then of course him talking about his parents and their fantastic relationship.”

The 67-year-old actress further mentioned that “there hasn’t been a big public memorial yet, and so we’re all grieving.”

During the interview, Curtis also recalled a phone conversation she had with Rob.

“Robbie called me and said, ‘I’ve been offered a part on ‘The Bear.’ Should I do it?’ And I told him, ‘Absolutely. You should do it,’” she said.

The late actor won a posthumous Emmy for his performance in the drama series in September 2026. Curtis also paid tribute to him during the ceremony.

Jamie Lee Curtis reflects on her close friendship with Rob Reiner

In a separate interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the 'Freaky Friday' star discussed paying tribute to Rob at the Emmy Awards.

“I felt a responsibility to represent everyone — strangers, fans, colleagues, friends, close friends and family — in that moment at the Emmys. I was fine and happy to do it.”

However, Curtis also acknowledged that the experience was more emotional than she had anticipated.

“It was a little tougher than I anticipated. The way the media works, words like ‘breaking silence’ and ‘first comments after’ start being a little strange.”

Curtis also reflected on her decades-old friendship with Rob and Michele and how closely their families were connected.

“I’m obviously a close friend of theirs; we got married at Rob’s house on December 18, 1984. Rob was the best man. My late sister Kelly was my maid of honor. So we are close. Rob is our daughter Annie’s godfather. When Michele married Rob, she and Rob became my daughter’s godparents. We have a closeness, of course.”

Jamie Lee Curtis to receive Rob and Michele Reiner award

Meanwhile, during the current interview, Curtis also discussed her association with the Children's Institute, an organization that was close to the Reiners.

“The Children’s Institute I got involved with because of Rob and Michele Reiner. Michele Reiner’s sister runs the place and I’ve been involved with it peripherally through Rob and Michele,” she stated.

Curtis is now set to receive the inaugural Michele and Rob Reiner Champion for Change Award from the organization. Jake Reiner will reportedly honor her.

Reflecting on the recognition, Curtis acknowledged the emotions surrounding the occasion and explained that she wanted it to celebrate the couple's legacy rather than serve as a memorial.

“The whole thing is filled with such sadness and disbelief and he loved them so much. I want it to be joyful. I want it to be celebratory. I wanted to be honored. It’s not a memorial. It is moving forward together using their energy to inspire all of us.”
