NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Jared Kushner, former President Donald Trump's son-in-law, has recently concluded a controversial real estate deal in Serbia, sparking a fresh controversy described by Retired General Wesley Clark as a "betrayal of the United States."

The agreement involves his company erecting a monument that promotes Russian narratives, which justify a violent ethnic cleansing and condemn NATO for "aggression."

Jared Kushner-linked firm strikes $500 million deal with Serbia for luxury hotel

In May, Affinity Partners, the investment firm associated with Jared Kushner, unveiled a $500 million deal with the Serbian government. The deal entails the construction of a luxury hotel in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia.

The hotel will be constructed on the site of the former Defense Ministry, which was bombed during the 1999 Kosovo War. As part of the deal, there's a commitment to erect a memorial honoring all the victims of NATO aggression.

During the Kosovo conflict, the United States collaborated with NATO in launching airstrikes against the Serbian government led by President Slobodan Milosevic.

Milosevic's regime had instigated a campaign of ethnic cleansing targeting Albanians in Kosovo.

Retired General Wesley Clark, who served as NATO's supreme allied commander during the conflict, criticized the proposed memorial.

He said, "It's a betrayal of the United States, its policies and the brave diplomats and airmen who did what they could to stop Serb ethnic cleansing."

Clark shared his views with Michael Isikoff, a renowned American investigative journalist and author. Isikoff, in his publication, emphasized the need to consider the memorial within a broader geopolitical framework.

Kushner's controversial deal with Serbia sparks outrage over memorial pledge

As reported by journalist Michael Isikoff's 'SpyTalk,' the specifics of Kushner's lucrative $500 million contract with the Serbian government "include a commitment that appears poised to generate further international controversy: a promise by Kushner’s firm, Affinity Partners, to build a "memorial dedicated to all the victims of NATO aggression" — referring to the US-backed bombing campaign that weakened the Serbian government of Slobodan Milosevic twenty-five years ago."

The campaign was initiated in solidarity with the broader global community in reaction to Milosevic's ruthless ethnic cleansing operations in Kosovo targeting ethnic Albanians, widely recognized as genocide.

However, Serbia's current pro-Russian administration, led by Aleksander Vučić, who was formerly part of Milosevic's regime, has aligned itself with Vladimir Putin's Russia.

Together, they propagate revisionist narratives portraying NATO as aggressors. This narrative, intertwined with Putin's aggressive actions in Ukraine, forms the foundation of their rhetoric.

"Among those exercised over the Kushner deal is retired Gen Wesley Clark, who served as NATO Supreme Allied Commander during the war," wrote Isikoff.

He added, "While he has no objection to a US firm investing in Serbia, the planned revisionist memorial — officially proclaiming America’s adversary in the war to have been a victim of 'aggression' — 'is worse than a reversal' of US policies in the region, said Clark in the interview, adding, 'It’s a betrayal of the United States, its policies and the brave diplomats and airmen who did what they could to stop Serb ethnic cleansing.'"

Netizens call Kushner a 'traitor'

Jared Kushner's real estate deal with the Serbian government has faced severe backlash from critics as well as viewers.

One viewer shared, "He's a traitor, and both his father and father-in-law are convicted felons. Nothing he does surprises me."

In a similar vein, another observer chimed in, "Traitor."

Moreover, a viewer highlighted, "Another member of Trump Cabal of Traitors." Adding to the conversation, a follower contributed, "Special place in hell for Jared."

A comment emphasized, "The Trump family is anti NATO because they are in bed financially with dictators." [sic]
