WASHINGTON, DC: Rep Jasmine Crockett harshly criticized Kristi Noem, the former Secretary of Homeland Security.

She said that Noem would be remembered as "the worst DHS Secretary in American history" and that she was in charge of the growing chaos in federal immigration enforcement.

Crockett said this after President Donald Trump fired Noem from her job at the US Department of Homeland Security because of growing problems with immigration enforcement, management issues, and high-profile incidents involving federal agents.

Jasmine Crockett says Kristi Noem oversaw ‘chaos’ at ICE

The Texas Democrat claimed that deaths in Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody had increased dramatically during Noem’s leadership, describing the rise as a “200%” increase tied to what she called failed oversight of the agency.

“Kristi Noem will go down as the worst DHS Secretary in American history,” Crockett said in a statement criticizing the former secretary’s tenure. “She has been completely complicit in the chaos unfolding at ICE.”

Crockett zeroed in on US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the agency that handles immigration laws and runs detention centers.

She said things got worse at ICE after Noem took charge. “Frankly, she should’ve been gone a long time ago — and she will not be missed.”

Jasmine Crockett calls out ‘cruelty’ of Trump’s agenda

This comes after months of heated debate over the Trump administration’s tough stance on immigration.

ICE has been carrying out big raids and arrests, like Operation Metro Surge, a major push against undocumented immigrants that’s sparked a lot of political backlash.

“Trump’s deportation agenda has always been about cruelty and the weaponization of fear. So replacing Kristi Noem alone is not enough,” Crockett said. “Until we see actual change to the policies, procedures, and accountability within ICE, this firing is only performative.”

Noem kept backing the administration’s approach in Congress, saying tough immigration enforcement protects national security and helps get control of the border again.

Crockett pushed back, saying real reform means changing how immigration is enforced, adding better oversight, and making federal agencies more accountable.

Trump has nominated Oklahoma Sen Markwayne Mullin to replace Noem as homeland security secretary, a move that will require Senate confirmation.

Noem’s removal marks the first Cabinet-level dismissal during Trump’s second administration and follows multiple controversies, including congressional criticism over immigration enforcement actions and questions about spending decisions within DHS.

Crockett also wrote on a social media post about her frustration with Noem. “We, the people, have been frustrated with Kristi Noem for a long time now. It’s time for her to go.”
