Jaw-dropping 'Yellowstone' finale spoiler leaked in August turns out to be absolutely on the money
Spoiler alert: This article contains spoilers from the series.
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'Yellowstone' has officially ridden off into the sunset—and judging by the fans' reactions it’s less of a triumphant gallop and more of a sloppy faceplant.
Taylor Sheridan tried his best to stick the landing (Elsa Dutton narrating was a nice sentimental touch), but for many diehard fans, it just wasn’t enough. Some are even saying the final episode was worse than 'Game of Thrones’ disastrous farewell.
The drama doesn’t end there, though, because this whole mess was revealed months ago thanks to a Montana homeowner with an axe to grind.
'Yellowstone' spoiler surfaced on Reddit
Back in August, Whiskey Riff gave us a heads-up about the finale leaks that surfaced on Reddit. And while nobody could confirm if the Redditor was legit at the time, they’re now sitting pretty with a giant "told ya so."
According to this mystery Montana homeowner, 'Yellowstone’s crew spent long hours filming in their neighborhood, hogging space and shining stadium lights well into the night. As if that wasn’t enough, they allegedly treated locals with rudeness and a “condescending attitude.”
As payback, the Redditor dropped a bombshell post that gave away the entire ending of 'Yellowstone’s much-anticipated finale.
“I talked to a colleague this morning who, for some inexplicable reason, was an extra in this ‘secret scene’ last night, as well as a neighbor who looks down over the house, and both of them spilled the beans on what happened after hearing about our baby, my spouse, and our friends," they wrote. "Beth, Costner’s delusional, insane daughter, is carried out on a stretcher and loaded into the ambulance. They think she was shot."
"There had been some big fight scene they’d filmed in the house the past few days between her, her brother (the lawyer son – literally the only sympathetic character and the only one even remotely capable of acting), and her mass-murdering, sociopath of a husband," the original poster continued. "Who, by the way, I have met and is also a massive ass***e in real life, so probably not a real stretch to play Rip. Jamie, the lawyer, is probably dead inside and who knows about Rip. I’d like him dead too," they added.
How it played out and why 'Yellowstone' spoiler leaked
So, was the Redditor right? Absolutely. The 'Yellowstone' finale delivered exactly what they described. Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and her estranged brother Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley) go at it inside the family home. It’s a brutal, violent showdown—the kind we all saw coming from a mile away.
Then enters Rip Wheeler, bursting onto the scene like the cowboy wrecking ball he is. But before Rip can finish Jamie off, Beth insists on handling it herself.
The Redditor called it. Spot on. And the Montana local has no regrets. In fact, they squarely blamed 'Yellowstone’s crew for the leak, saying their rude treatment of locals practically earned this outcome:
“If that was the big, ‘secret’ finale/fight, Yellowstone, your crew’s sh*tty conduct towards the neighbors the past few days and over the summer, and even two years ago when you filmed at the house, as well as your condescending attitude towards Montanans in Missoula, the Flathead, and the Bitterroot earned you no friends and spoiled it. No one would have bothered sharing this ‘secret scene’ had you treated everyone with some modicum of respect. You didn’t. This is the outcome.”
Predictable ending or not, 'Yellowstone' fans are not happy. For a show that’s been one of the most popular dramas on television, many feel the finale fizzled instead of exploded. Beth and Jamie’s feud was always going to come to blows, sure, but the lack of surprises didn’t do Taylor Sheridan any favors.
While 'Yellowstone’s flagship series may be over, the Dutton universe isn’t done yet. Sheridan has already lined up multiple spin-offs, including '1923' and the upcoming '6666'. But will fans stick around after the sour taste this finale left behind? That’s anyone’s guess.
