LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: ‘Yellowstone’ has finally wrapped up in style, but not everyone is satisfied.

In fact, as Paramount rolled out the last episode of season five of ‘Yellowstone’ on Sunday, December 15, the much-loved cowboy series managed to garner a polarizing reaction from the fans. Some fans even criticized Taylor Sheridan for making the show all about himself.

While a section of fans were left crying for the perfect bittersweet ending of the larger-than-life saga, the other section was left fuming, stating the season finale of ‘Yellowstone’ competed with the infamous final episode of ‘Game of Thrones.’

‘Yellowstone’ wraps up season 5 with a bittersweet ending

The ‘Yellowstone’ fans experienced a full-circle moment as the series finale went back to its 1883 history to neatly tie up the present events.

The episode also tied up all the loose ends when all the promises were fulfilled. While Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) hinted last week that he will give away the ranch to its rightful owners, this week’s episode had him materializing his vision.

Kayce sold the land back to the fictional Broken Rock Indians in the price in which John Dutton’s ancestors bought the land - $1.25 an acre. He sold the ranch for just $1.1 million to the Indians, thus fulfilling the forefather’s promise.

Beth (Kelly Reilly) too kept her promise and avenged her father John Dutton (previously played by Kevin Costner) as she killed her brother Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley).

While Beth and Rip (Cole Hauser) bought a brand new ranch, Kayce, Monica (Kelsey Asbille) and Tate (Brecken Merrill) kept the East Camp part of the sprawling ranch, according to Daily Mail

Finally, the episode ended with Elsa Dutton’s voice-over that tied the entire story and its multiple prequels, noted The Hollywood Reporter

'Yellowstone' fans left divided with the season finale

As the 'Yellowstone' season finale aired, fans were left divided in their opinion. While one of the sections declared the episode to be the "best series finale" ever possible, another group claimed the episode contested with 'Game of Thrones' finale which similarly left several fans fuming over the fates of their beloved characters.

One of the unsatisfied fans declared, "It is official. 'Game of Thrones' is no longer the worst final season of any TV show ever. 'Yellowstone' has taken that award. What a disaster of a final season. #Yellowstone #YellowstoneTV."

Someone else dissected the episode ruthlessly, saying, "SERIOUSLY! 10 min concert we didn’t care about, 20 more minutes of Taylor Sheridan being a clown, 30 min funeral. 10 minutes in total of anything good. Then some filler nonsense."

"#YellowstoneTV I’m trying to decide which was worse, the final of 'Game of Thrones', or this final for 'Yellowstone' 🤔," quipped another disgruntled fan.

Someone else added in a similar tone saying, "This entire half season of 'Yellowstone' was completely worthless. 'Game of Thrones' levels of terrible endings."

The fans' criticism was extended to the series maker Taylor Sheridan as well. Another fan vented out, "The 'Yellowstone' finale was okay, an acceptable end to a generally good series. Costner was the heart & soul though. Taylor Sheridan needs to stick to writing and stay out of his shows, his character was pointless and self serving, it cheapened a quality franchise."

However, everyone was not critical of the finale as one of the fans praised, "Well that was a satisfying finale. Wrapped everything up. Congrats to the cast & crew. You made one hell of a show. #YellowstoneTV."

"'Yellowstone' finale was bittersweet," chimed in another fan.

Someone else shared, "I enjoyed the #Yellowstone finale. I laughed. I smiled. I cried….ALOT. I cheered Beth on when she finished Jamie. I was happy with the way everyone’s stories were left. I’m sad it’s over. I hope there will be spinoffs."

"Ok so there’s no way that wasn’t a series finale and if they try to make another season of 'Yellowstone' after the best series finale I’ve ever seen I’m personally fighting Taylor Sheridan," shared another fan while defending the episode.
