Spoilers alert

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'Yellowstone' killing spree seems to be never-ending, as another fan-favorite character met a tragic end during the Sunday, December 1 episode of the show.

After the back-to-back deaths of John Dutton (Kevin Costner) and Sara Atwood (Dawn Olivieri) in the second part of the fifth season, fans had to bid adieu to Colby Mayfield (Denim Richards), a minor yet endearing character of the neo-Western drama series, as per Daily Mail.

'Yellowstone' kills off fan-favorite Colby Mayfield

While Sarah Atwood’s death was somewhat related to John Dutton as she was the one who hired assassins to kill the previous governor, Colby Mayfield's death was not a part of the grand scheme of things, but rather a tragic accident.

Colby died after getting kicked in the chest by a massive wild stallion that they had been trying to break for the past few episodes.

Many fans opined Colby’s death could have been avoided since his character had a steady presence since the first season and has become everyone’s favorite.

The episode lacked premonition of Colby's death as it started rather romantically with him talking to his girlfriend, Teeter (Jennifer Landon), over the phone. Adding to the woes of the fans, the phone conversation also marked the first time Colby and Teeter ever professed their love for each other and exchanged "I love yous."

Over the past few episodes, Lloyd (Forrie J Smith) failed to break the stallion. During Season 5 Episode 12, as Carter (Finn Little) was cleaning out the stalls, he noticed the stallion had spilled a bucket full of water. As he was going to refill it, the wild horse almost trampled him when Colby heard his cries and ran to save him.

When he asked Carter to escape while attempting to distract the horse, the wild beast kicked him in his chest with its hind legs. Later, the horse knocked him down before stomping on his chest, killing him.

By the time Carter came back with a gun to put down the horse, Colby was already dead.

'Yellowstone' killing spree frustrates even the most loyal fans

'Yellowstone' fans were devastated after witnessing Colby Mayfield's death on Sunday's episode, and they rushed to social media to express their frustration.

One wrote, "That was not cool. I hate that they killed Colby. If ANYONE deserved a happy ending when this series ends, it was these two. Felt so bad for Teeter upon hearing the news. After they just said "I love you" to each other too. 💔 😭," and another echoed, "These 2 could have gone on to a sequel dammit!"

"As if we aren't already pissed enough with Sheridan. That was like rubbing salt in the wound," remarked an individual, referring to Taylor Sheridan, the co-creator of 'Yellowstone'.

"So dumb, they ruined the season," expressed a person, with another saying, "C**p writing. Totally ridiculous and makes no sense except shock value."

"Damn…not my dude Colby. 🤦🏽‍♂️ I was rooting for that dude to get branded since season 1," wrote another fan. One more mourned, "What is Yellowstone doing to us!!!!!!???!!!!!! Y Colby!!???!! This hurts too much. Him and Teeter were the wholesome we loved."

Another fan questioned, "Damn, what is the point of killing Colby with 2 episodes to go???"
