WASHINGTON, DC: Vice President JD Vance emphasized the importance of voter identification as the November midterms approach. In an interview with Lara Trump on My View on FOX News, he said requiring voter ID is essential to protecting the integrity of U.S. elections.
Vance highlighted his support for the SAVE AMERICA Act, legislation that would mandate proof of citizenship to vote. Over 50 Republican senators have thrown their backing behind the bill, which aims to prevent ineligible voting and ensure every vote counts.
JD Vance talks about the importance of voter ID
During the discussion, Trump asked why voter ID is such a priority for the SAVE America Act. Vance responded, "Number one priority will be passing the SAVE America Act. Why is that so important for this country? It's simple: you need an ID for almost everything—buying a plane ticket, purchasing alcohol—but not for voting, the most important act of citizenship."
He described voting without verification as “a form of theft.” "If an American citizen casts a vote and someone without the right to vote casts another, that person is stealing your vote and undermining your sovereignty as a citizen," Vance said.
Addressing Democratic objections, Vance argued that requiring voter ID is not discriminatory. "Some claim it's racist to ask for voter ID, but polling shows broad support across racial groups, including Black, Brown, and Asian voters," he added. He stressed that ID verification is a simple safeguard to maintain fair elections.

Trump also asked Vance about the DHS shutdown and Democratic demands. Vance said he has engaged with former Senate colleagues to understand the issues and stressed willingness to discuss solutions. "There's no offer on the table from the Democrats," he said, blaming them for the stalemate. "They're throwing a temper tantrum instead of negotiating."
Vance affirmed that Republicans are open to discussions that improve enforcement of immigration laws while maintaining border security. "We are ready to explore ways to make enforcement more efficient and effective," he said, highlighting the administration’s stance on law and order while linking it to voter integrity.
