JD Vance trolled for cringe 'jerk' comment to Italian PM Giorgia Meloni: 'Take classes on etiquette'

ROME, ITALY: Vice President JD Vance was mocked online for making a cringeworthy remark after he met with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in Rome on Friday, April 18.

The US vice president said that if Meloni had called him "a jerk" in her language, he would not even understand, as per the Daily Express US.



 

Vance's meeting with the Italian politician came just a day after she visited the White House.

JD Vance's attempt at humor during a meeting with Giorgia Meloni falls flat

During their meeting, Giorgia Meloni told JD Vance that Italy is "proud" to strengthen a "special relationship" with the US and the government of Donald Trump.

In response, Jance said, "Great, well, thank you, Prime Minister Meloni, it's wonderful to see you again. I hope that's exactly what you said."

He then added, "Of course she could have called me a jerk, and I wouldn't know... but it would be in the most beautiful language imaginable."

Meloni did not react much, except for a polite laugh, but people online were clearly not impressed.

Internet labels JD Vance 'uncultured and unserious' over 'jerk' remark

Netizens weren't having it when it came to JD Vance's remark aimed at Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and they took to social media ot express their distaste.

One wrote, “She could call me a jerk and she would be right. Is what he meant.”



 

“Top search on Google this morning.  It's ‘sei uno stronzo,’” a person wrote, referring to a phrase that translates to "you're an a**hole" in English.



 

“If she called JD Vance a jerk, she would have to apologise to all the jerks to bring them down to JD Vance’s level,” someone else remarked. 



 

“That’s how uncultured and unserious the Vice President is," another comment read. 



 

“Well, she would be correct if she did, but a ‘jerk’ is an understatement for this guy," another person wrote. 



 

An individual said, “Definitely NOT a diplomat? JD should either get a job as a bad comic, or take classes on etiquette. Good thing he can't see the Pope this trip. He'd get excommunicated.”



 

“If JD is not acting like a jerk, then he's showing himself to be a moron. This is MAGA,” a person added.



 

One more asked, "Why are they all such diplomatic idiots? None know diplimatic protocals. Or follow norms."



 

JD Vance drew flak for being rude to Volodymyr Zelensky

However, this was not the first time JD Vance was slammed for his bizarre way of diplomacy.

During a February Oval Office meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, he was reportedly rude to him.

He accused Zelensky of being disrespectful to the US and repeatedly asked him to be thankful to the country for offering help in the war against Russia.
