PITUFFIK, GREENLAND: Vice President JD Vance made waves on Friday, sharply criticizing Denmark for what he called its “underinvestment” in Greenland’s security.

Speaking from Pituffik Space Base, the vice president doubled down on the Trump administration’s long-standing interest in the mineral-rich Arctic territory that has reignited international tensions.

Twitter and other platforms lit up with commentary, with many questioning why Vance ditched the traditional suit-and-tie for something more rugged, The poke reported.

JD Vance roasted for military-style outfit while addressing Marines in Greenland

JD Vance is proving to be a more headline-grabbing vice president than many expected though not always for the reasons he might prefer.

While much of the recent conversation around his Greenland visit has centered on its sudden downsizing, Vance has also made waves for his choice of attire while addressing US Marines stationed on the Arctic island.

Clad in tactical gear, the VP fired off rounds at the range and spoke to troops, but his military-style look had the internet buzzing for all the wrong reasons.

The itinerary for the visit was scaled back after a plan for a more extensive trip drew criticism from officials in Greenland and Denmark, which controls foreign and defence policy of the semiautonomous territory. “Doesn’t he own a suit?” one user asked bluntly, while another wrote, “Did he thank President Zelenskyy for the outfit idea? No!”

“Zelenskyy also wore it better,” another quipped, referencing the Ukrainian president’s signature style. “Did people gaslight themselves into thinking Vance gave Zelenskyy shit for not wearing a suit?” one commenter asked.

“I think his outfit has more to do with it being 20 degrees below freezing and also it is a military base,” one user reasoned.

“At least he kept the eyeliner casual to match his attire,” another commenter added, taking a playful jab at the VP’s rugged appearance. One last user wrote, “Where is his suit?”

“Our message to Denmark is very simple. You have not done a good job by the people of Greenland,” Vance declared.

“You have underinvested in the people of Greenland, and you have underinvested in the security architecture of this incredible, beautiful landmass filled with incredible people. That has to change.”

Vance asserted that the US has "no choice" but to take a strong stance in safeguarding Greenland's security. He also voiced support for Greenland's movement toward independence from Denmark.

“I think that they ultimately will partner with the United States,” Vance stated.

“We could make them much more secure. We could do a lot more protection. And I think they’d fare a lot better economically as well.”

The vice president was joined by his wife and senior US officials on the trip, though the visit was scaled back following an outcry from Greenlanders and Danish leaders who criticized the administration for planning the trip without prior consultation.
