WASHINGTON, DC: Vice President JD Vance issued a strong warning to fellow Republicans, saying the party cannot counter growing support for socialism among young Americans by simply repeating free-market arguments that have been used for decades.

He argued that the only real solution is to improve material conditions for the next generation.

Vance made the remarks as progressive and democratic socialist candidates secured a series of primary victories across several states.

His comments marked one of his sharpest assessments of the Republican Party's political challenge ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

JD Vance says prosperity beats socialism

"If we don't get this right, don't blame young people for being sympathetic to socialism," Vance said. "We've got to blame ourselves."

Vance argued that the Republican Party can counter socialism by making meaningful improvements to the daily lives of working-class and younger Americans, rather than relying solely on ideological messaging.

"You DON'T stop socialism by throwing slogans about the free market." "You stop socialism by making people's lives BETTER."

He explained what this means in practical terms, focusing on the key concerns of younger Americans trying to build their financial futures.

"Making it possible for young people to afford to buy a home. THIS is how you stop socialism!"

"I would say to that young person that you as an American citizen deserve to have a good life in this country, and you deserve to have a government that is making it easier for you to start a family, for you to afford to get a good education, for you to have a good job, for you to afford a home."

Vance credits Trump's economy for growth

Vance credited President Donald Trump's economic program with already beginning to achieve those goals and said the results are now becoming visible.

As evidence that good middle-class jobs are returning, he pointed to trillions of dollars in new investment flowing into the United States. He also said housing prices have stabilized after a period of rapid increases.

"And I think what is so unique and refreshing about Donald Trump's economic policies is that it's not the same old economic ideas that you would have heard 30, 40 years ago."

"And what I would also say is that whilst these things sometimes take a little bit of time, we are already seeing the positive results come from the president's economic policies."

He also identified interest rates as a key remaining priority, saying lowering borrowing costs is essential to giving young Americans a realistic path to homeownership.

"We're seeing trillions of dollars of new investment into this country, which means good middle class jobs for young people, middle income people, all across our country."

"We're seeing housing prices finally stabilize. They doubled during the Biden administration."

Vance framed Trump's economic approach as a genuine departure from the Republican playbook of previous decades.

"We want people to be able to afford the good things about this wonderful country that we all live in."
