‘I know how difficult’: JD Vance’s personal farewell message to Karoline Leavitt

WASHINGTON, DC: Vice President JD Vance gave Karoline Leavitt’s White House departure a personal note, acknowledging the demands of her job as a young parent.

Leavitt announced she will leave the Trump administration at the end of August to focus on her family.

Vance praised her performance while reflecting on the difficulty of serving as one of the administration’s most visible voices.

Vance highlighted the demands of Leavitt’s role

In X post on Thursday, August 13, Vance said Leavitt held “one of the hardest jobs in the Administration,” pointing to the criticism she faced while serving as White House press secretary.

“I know how difficult yet rewarding a constant job like this can be for a young parent,” Vance wrote, directly tying his farewell to the demands of the position and Leavitt’s decision to focus on her family.

He also praised the way she handled the role, saying, “She did the job with grace, wit and a smile on her face.”

Vance’s message came after Leavitt announced that she would leave the administration at the end of August. 

She had served as President Donald Trump’s chief spokeswoman for a year and a half.

Vice President praised Leavitt as a key Trump defender

Vance described Leavitt as one of the administration’s most effective messengers and credited her with defending Trump’s agenda.

“She’s been one of the most effective voices in articulating and defending the President’s agenda, and I’m incredibly grateful to her,” he said.

Leavitt also reflected positively on her time in the White House after Trump revealed her upcoming departure.

“Serving as the White House Press Secretary over the past year and a half has been the honor and adventure of a lifetime,” she said.

She thanked Trump for opportunities that included working in the West Wing, spending time in the Oval Office, traveling around the world and meeting foreign leaders.

Leavitt also described speaking for Trump at the White House podium as a distinct privilege.

Leavitt says she will focus on her family

Leavitt said she was grateful to Trump for entrusting her with the role and said she had taken pride in defending his administration.

“I have spoken with great pride about the many historic accomplishments of this Administration,” she said.

She added that she had “relished holding the liberal media accountable” and ensuring Americans heard what she described as the truth about Trump’s successes.

Vance said the administration was sorry to see her leave but expressed confidence about what comes next for her.

“We’re sad to see her go, but I know she’ll continue to do great things,” he said.
