AUSTIN, TEXAS: President Joe Biden reportedly referred to House Speaker Mike Johnson as "dead on arrival" when asked to comment on the latter's criticism of his US Supreme Court reform bill on Monday, July 29.

According to the New York Post, the remarks were made by the incumbent as he descended Air Force One at the Austin Airport. He was greeted by Reps Lloyd Doggett and Al Green on the tarmac. Biden's visit to the state was to mark the 60th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act and deliver an address at the LBJ Presidential Library.

While standing by his aircraft, Joe Biden was asked his opinion on Speaker Mike Johnson calling his Supreme Court reform "dead on arrival".

"That's what he is," he said.

The reporter, who was present at quite some distance, shouted for clarification, "That he is?"

"He is. Dead on arrival," responded Biden.

The video of the interaction has been uploaded on X (formerly Twitter), and has since gone viral. It has been shared by Johnson himself, who added a clip from Joe Biden's presidential debate against GOP nominee Donald Trump in June, where the latter said of the President, "I really don’t know what he said at the end of that sentence. I don’t think he knows what he said, either.”

White House senior deputy press secretary Andrew Bates later shared Biden's clarification with the New York Post, stating that the President meant Johnson’s “thinking” was “dead on arrival.”

Mike Johnson's take on the SCOTUS reforms

Speaker Mike Johnson stated that President Biden's plan to overhaul the Supreme Court, which includes imposing term limits and a code of conduct among other changes, "would tilt the balance of power and erode not only the rule of law, but the American people’s faith in our system of justice.”

“This proposal is the logical conclusion to the Biden-Harris Administration and Congressional Democrats’ ongoing efforts to delegitimize the Supreme Court,” Johnson said Monday. “Their calls to expand and pack the Court will soon resume.”

“It is telling that Democrats want to change the system that has guided our nation since its founding simply because they disagree with some of the Court’s recent decisions. This dangerous gambit of the Biden-Harris Administration is dead on arrival in the House," he added.

Internet backs Mike Johnson

Netizens on X praised Speaker Mike Johnson's trolling skills as he shared the Austin airport interaction clip of Biden along with Trump's debate jibe.

"We are witnessing the birth of Mike Johnson’s backbone," wrote one social media user.

"Wow great trolling by @SpeakerJohnson for once," echoed another.

"Sometimes a video is worth 1,000 words, huh? Well played, Speaker!" exclaimed one individual.

"Based speaker Johnson," commented another.

"Well played, sir," shared one person.

"NOW DO SOMETHING!!!" hollered one person.

"Get back to work," added another.
