WASHINGTON, DC: Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La) expressed outrage over the opening ceremonies of the Olympics, calling them a mockery of Leonardo da Vinci's painting of the Last Supper.

The ceremonies featured performers, some in drag, in a scene resembling the biblical event.

Speaker Mike Johnson condemns Paris Olympics' opening ceremony as 'mockery' of Christians

Mike Johnson criticized the performance as shocking and insulting to Christians worldwide. He voiced his concerns in a post on X (formerly Twitter), quoting John 1:5 from the Bible.

“Last night’s mockery of the Last Supper was shocking and insulting to Christian people around the world who watched the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games,” Johnson wrote on the social media platform.

“The war on our faith and traditional values knows no bounds today. But we know that truth and virtue will always prevail,” Johnson added.

The controversial performance depicted a group of performers, some in drag, recreating the scene of Jesus’ final meal with his apostles, the night before his crucifixion.

Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene and Piers Morgan slam Paris Olympics' opening ceremony

Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga) also criticized the ceremonies. She accused the Olympic Committee of attempting to censor the right by removing posts critical of the performance that used video from the ceremonies.

“The French Olympic Committee has been hard at work taking down videos of their satanic, trans, and occult opening ceremonies claiming copyright laws,” she posted on X.

“It’s our First Amendment right to share these videos and our outright outrage over the anti-Christian Olympic opening ceremonies,” she added.

Piers Morgan, the television personality, questioned whether the Olympics would have mocked any other religion like this in a post on X.

Harrison Butker, the Kansas City Chiefs placekicker, also criticized the Olympics.

Internet reacts to Speaker Mike Johnson’s comments on Paris Olympics opening ceremony

Netizens sided with Mike Johnson's viewpoints, some even suggested that a "serious" president would bring the athletes back. However, Johnson was also ripped for "worshipping felon Trump" due to his religious beliefs.

“A serious POTUS would send our athletes home," wrote an X user.

Another added, “A complete mockery of Christianity. My brother is an Olympian, and this was by far the most satanic and disgusting ceremony I have ever seen. Do not defy Jesus Christ.”

Some users disapproved of the performance, with one writing, “I am glad I am not watching. So disrespectful.”

However, some also criticized Johnson, stating, “You worship an Orange felon. You might wanna sit this out.”

Another posted, “If MAGA ‘Christians’ truly find that disturbing, they will stop supporting a despicable, racist, deceitful, and hateful rapist. ‘They claim to know God, but by their actions, they deny him. They are detestable, disobedient, and unfit for doing anything good.’ ~ Titus 1:16.”
