NEW YORK, NEW YORK: Former President Joe Biden made an unexpected appearance during Jill Biden’s book event in New York on Tuesday, June 2, briefly interrupting a discussion of her new memoir with a question that drew laughter from the audience.

The moment came as the former first lady was wrapping up a conversation with moderator Whoopi Goldberg about her recently released book, ‘A View from the East Wing.’ The appearance followed an evening in which Jill Biden reflected on her time in the White House, her husband’s health challenges and the final years of his presidency.

Jill was concluding a question-and-answer session with Goldberg in Manhattan when Joe Biden rose from his seat in the audience and approached the stage. The moment began after Goldberg read a message from an audience member thanking the former president for his service.

Jill stood up and applauded her husband before he addressed the stage without a microphone. “I have a question,” Biden said. “Joe has a question, like you couldn’t ask it later?” Jill Biden responded.

“Whoopi,” Jill Biden replied, prompting laughter from the audience.

As Goldberg attempted to continue the discussion, Joe Biden remained standing near the stage. Jill Biden later added, “I love you most, Joe. Was that it? Was that the answer he wanted?”

“Do I have to remind him that this is my event?” Jill Biden joked. “The only thing that Jill does better than write, she’s a beautiful woman,” Biden added before the event concluded.

The discussion also focused on Joe Biden’s health and political future

Jill Biden also discussed her husband’s diagnosis of Stage IV prostate cancer, which was announced after he left office. The disease had spread to his bones, and the former president has completed radiation treatment in October.

“You see Joe here tonight, he looks handsome as ever … but you know, cancer drugs, cancer treatments have those consequences, and those consequences are pretty tough,” she said. Jill also addressed questions about whether the former president would have been able to serve another term in office following his health diagnosis.

She said her assessment had changed based on what is now known about his condition. “Well, not from what I know now,” she said when asked if Joe Biden could have completed another four years as president. “I mean, my God, who knew? I mean, it was so shocking to get that cancer diagnosis.”

Despite those remarks, she continued to defend Biden’s 2024 re-election campaign and argued that his widely scrutinized debate performance against then-candidate Donald Trump did not reflect broader concerns about his health during his presidency.
