Jill Biden reveals Joe made peace with Nancy Pelosi but she hasn't
WASHINGTON, DC: Joe Biden has made peace with close ally Nancy Pelosi after their relationship iced out when she pushed the former president to drop out following the disastrous debate.
However, Joe’s wife Jill Biden seems far less willing to forgive what she views as a betrayal by one of the family's closest political allies.
Biden and Pelosi have maintained a close alliance since the 1980s, when she was rising in House Democratic leadership.
For years, Biden and Pelosi stood as two of the Democratic Party's most powerful figures, coordinating on key policy battles during the Obama era, where Biden served as Vice President while Pelosi took the role of House Speaker.
However, their alliance suffered a major blow in 2024, when Pelosi declined to state that she endorsed Biden after his disastrous June 2024 debate against then Republican candidate Donald Trump.
“I think it’s a legitimate question to say, is this an episode, or is this a condition? And so when people ask that question, it’s completely legitimate — of both candidates,” Pelosi said in a July 2024 interview with MSNBC.
Jill Biden says Joe and Nancy Pelosi made peace at Tatiana Schlossberg's funeral
In an interview with The Wall Street Journal promoting her new memoir, Jill Biden revealed that while her husband has repaired his relationship with Pelosi, she has yet to find it in herself to do the same.
The former president and Pelosi came face-to-face at the funeral of Kennedy heiress Tatiana Schlossberg in January.
Jill praised her husband for taking the high road, noting that he left his pew during the Mass's "sign of peace" ritual to personally greet Pelosi with a handshake.
“I found out later they said, ‘Peace, let’s be friends,’” the former first lady said.
Jill appeared to draw a line between her husband's reconciliation and her own feelings, insisting that “I haven't actually seen her to make up with her or not make up with her. I didn't even see her in the church.”
However, she insisted that she's ready to let go of the tiff given Joe's recent cancer diagnosis.
“That's what I've learned through this cancer diagnosis... Life's so short. Why live with the anger and the pain of it all? I mean, move on. Let's move on,” she noted.
Jill Biden claims Joe would have beaten Trump in the 2024 presidential race
The former first lady made another shock admission during the interview, maintaining that she believes her husband would have won the 2024 election had he not dropped out of the race.
“I believe he would have beaten Donald Trump in that election,” Jill said. Following Biden’s debate performance, “Morning Joe” co-host Willie Geist said, there were many Democrats who “thought in some ways they’d been duped.”
“That close advisers to President Biden, perhaps some members of the media even, had protected him enough and kept him out of maybe a rigorous event schedule enough that they could get him along through to Election Day, and they thought we just saw what it’s really like behind the scenes,” Geist continued.
To which Jill replied, “If we were hiding him behind the scenes, why did we ask the Trump team for the debate? I mean, we were the ones who proposed it. If that were true, why did we put him out there?”
