NORMANDY, FRANCE: During a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, President Joe Biden apologized for the gap in US funding for Ukraine's war against Russia.

The meeting in Normandy, France, on Friday, June 6, was attended by world leaders to mark the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings, according to The Hill.

Joe Biden vows White House 'completely' supports Kyiv

Biden, who expressed his apology for the delay in Ukraine aid amid GOP opposition, has reassured Zelensky that the White House is "completely" supportive of Kyiv.

During the meeting, Biden unveiled a new $225 million aid package for Ukraine and stated, “I apologize for the weeks of not knowing what’s going to pass in terms of funding because we had trouble getting the bill that we had to pass that had the money in it."

"Some of our very conservative members were holding it up. But we got it done finally," the president said of Republicans who opposed spending money for Kyiv as they argued the government should prioritize domestic issues over international aid.

"We’re still in. Completely. Thoroughly," he added.

Joe Biden administration's authorization to use US weapons

Recently, the Biden administration permitted Ukraine to utilize US weapons for strikes inside Russia but limited these areas to near the Russia-Ukraine border.

“We’re not authorizing strikes 200 miles into Russia, and we’re not authorizing strikes on Moscow, on the Kremlin,” said Biden, reported ABC News.

In his remarks on the anniversary of D-Day landings, the president tied the sacrifices of World War II to the importance of current global alliances, underscoring his commitment to support Ukraine.

Will Joe Biden attend the Ukraine peace summit?

A Summit on Peace in Ukraine will be held in Switzerland on June 15.

However, Biden will not be attending the summit as he will be participating in a high-dollar fundraiser with former president Barack Obama in California.

As previously reported by MEAWW, Vice President Kamala Harris will be joined by National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan to represent the White House at the summit instead.
