WASHINGTON, DC: Vice President Kamala Harris' ability to challenge Donald Trump was one of the reasons President Joe Biden decided to postpone his decision to withdraw from the 2024 reelection campaign, as per a report.

Axios reported on Monday, citing three Biden aides familiar with the talks that Biden had with his senior advisors who voiced doubts about Harris's ability to take on Trump before the President's historic decision, according to the New York Post.

Joe Biden announced his resignation on Sunday, weeks after his disastrous debate with Donald Trump left his campaign in ruins, and ended up supporting Kamala Harris. Sources said that in the hours preceding the shocking announcement's release, Biden and Harris had many phone calls.

According to a source who spoke to CNN, Harris, for her part, frantically called more than 100 Democratic Party officials, lawmakers, and contributors for over 10 hours in an effort to get support.

Among the many calls she made were to former presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, the source said. Bill and Hillary Clinton were quick to publicly support Harris, but Obama delayed endorsing her, stating that Democrats would select an as-yet-unidentified 'outstanding nominee'.

Obama said, "We will be navigating uncharted waters in the days ahead. But I have extraordinary confidence that the leaders of our party will be able to create a process from which an outstanding nominee emerges."

Some online comments read, "Joe will ironically have the last laugh: when Kamala loses he will be able to claim that he was betrayed and he would have bested Trump if not for disloyalty among the ranks."

A user wrote, "Joe has no idea as what is going in. Bet he still thinks he's the candidate," while one added, "Democrats have had this planned for over a year. This is just another way for them to win dishonestly."

A person also stated, "They wanted to implement the candidate they wanted, not the candidate that would win the primary. That is democracy according to the democratic party," whereas one mentioned, "A dynasty of corrupt grifters. My only sympathy is for the damage he has inflicted and will continue to inflict on our Republic."

A user added, "She should have been "earning" the nomination during the 3-1/2 years she's been VP. She did absolutely nothing during that entire time and thus her terrible polling," while one said, "Democrats have been screaming that Trump would end democracy."
