For those unaware, Nick was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 13. Since then, he has had to regularly monitor his blood sugar, manage his meals and take insulin to keep his levels under control.
Nick Jonas opens up about managing type 1 diabetes
In a 2025 interview with Health, Nick opened up about living with type 1 diabetes and how his approach to managing the condition has changed over the years.
Nick said he once felt that managing his diabetes was entirely his responsibility.
“I was really hard on myself initially, thinking that my glucose levels weren’t where I wanted them to be, thinking it was all on my shoulders,” he said.
“I took a lot on myself. And then over time, I’ve gotten to the point where I do truly lean on others.”
Nick said he now makes sure the people around him know when his blood sugar is too high or too low and tells them what he needs.
He also explained that managing his diet has become more important as he gets older. “Your body just changes,” Nick explained. “There’s no one-size-fits-all for management of type 1.”
As a father, Nick said his outlook has also changed. “Every moment, every minute becomes more precious when you’re seeing it through the lens of being a parent and wanting to be around your child as much as possible,” he said.
