AUSTIN, TEXAS: Podcaster Joe Rogan did not hold back while reacting to New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s latest budget proposal on his show.

The remarks came during an episode of 'The Joe Rogan Experience', where Rogan and guest Michael Malice debated migrant spending and immigration policy. At one point, Rogan labeled the Democratic Socialist mayor “a f*cking psychopath,” taking issue with what he described as excessive funding for migrants.

Rogan’s strongest criticism centered on the amount of money allocated for migrants in the proposed city budget. Reacting to the figures, he said, “He’s a f*cking psychopath,” before adding, “The amount for migrants is crazy. There should be zero dollars for illegal immigrants.” His comments set the tone for a tense back-and-forth with Malice, who pushed back on the practicality of Rogan’s position.

“I don’t think you could have zero, because if they’re gonna be there, you have to feed them, you have to do something with them, if you don’t feed them, they’re gonna be robbing stores,” Malice replied. Rogan suggested that employment could be part of the solution. “Get them jobs,” he argued.

Malice immediately questioned the logistics, asking, “How are you going to get a migrant a job?”

Without missing a beat, Rogan shot back, “Get them a job in Guatemala,” drawing a sharp response from the author, who appeared to challenge the idea from another angle. “Wouldn’t you rather give them food than a job? I don’t want them taking American citizens’ jobs,” Malice said.

At that point, Rogan appeared to acknowledge the complexity of the issue, conceding, “Well, the whole thing’s a mess.”

Malice agreed with the assessment, repeating, “The whole thing’s a mess,” but stressed that the situation could not simply be ignored. “You can’t just throw them away,” he added.

Joe Rogan floats removal as possible solution

The discussion then turned to enforcement and removal policies. Rogan responded, “Unless you’re going to remove them from the country.” Malice agreed with that framing, replying, “Right, unless you remove them,” while also noting the financial reality of harsher measures. “Even if you want to put them in jail, that’s not cheap,” he said.

Despite the blunt rhetoric, the conversation repeatedly circled back to the complexity and cost of any potential solution, with both men ultimately acknowledging the situation was far from simple.

The intense policy debate was briefly offset by Malice’s unusual appearance on the episode. The author showed up wearing striking face paint, explaining at the start of the show, “I just wanted to have a fun look.” He also noted it marked a milestone visit, saying it was his tenth time on the podcast. Malice later joked about the moment in a Thursday post on X, writing, “Tenth time’s the charm.”
