'Little self-awareness': Joe Scarborough thrashed as he calls JD Vance Trump's 'dumbest pick ever'

WASHINGTON, DC: MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough criticized former president Donald Trump's decision to pick Senator JD Vance (R-Ohio) as his vice presidential candidate.

Scarborough made these remarks on his show, 'Morning Joe', and said that he was unable to figure out why he chose him.

Joe Scarborough questioned the wisdom of Donald Trump's VP pick, predicting it could harm the GOP nominee's campaign.

“I’ve never got a good answer in my own mind figuring this out," Scarborough said on 'Morning Joe'.

"I can usually figure some things out in politics, not all, but I’ve never figured out this JD Vance pick,” he continued.

He added, “It just strikes me as one of the dumbest picks ever. It adds nothing. It accentuates [Trump’s] weaknesses, accentuates his weaknesses on abortion, accentuates his weaknesses on women," The Hill noted. 

JD Vance previously ran as anti-abortion hardliner for Senate

Joe Scarborough highlighted JD Vance’s abortion record as a potential issue for moderate and women voters.

Vance, who ran for Senate as a hard-line anti-abortion candidate, has advocated for a national abortion ban in the past.

“If you go back and look at voting patterns over the past two, three years, I would say it’s sort of the biggest political earthquake as far as an issue goes since Prop 13 in 1978 in California,” Scarborough said, referring to the state’s massive property tax reform vote.

“It has changed the landscape of American politics,” he said of abortion rights. “Why get somebody that doubles down in that area?”

Scarborough also remarked on Trump's fear of not having President Joe Biden to run against.

“I’ve heard from inside the Trump campaign for some time right now that the one thing Donald Trump feared was not having Joe Biden to run against,” he said on his MSNBC program according to the Independent. 

“If you talk about boxing,” Scarborough explained, “he was used to going against Biden, right? So, what have they done? They’ve switched it up – it’s going to be a southpaw now.”

The comments quickly drew reactions on social media, with many criticizing Joe Scarborough. However many suggested it was rather an endorsement.

One X (formerly Twitter) user blasted him, writing, "Joe Scarborough, one of the dumbest humans ever." Another added, "That gives me hope that he was in fact a good pick." 

"That means it was brilliant,” wrote another. One person likened the pick to "Palin level idiocy."

Another commented, "That’s one of the best possible endorsements right there."

Critics didn't hold back, with one remarking, "From the guy who said Joe Biden is the most articulate and energetic president he has ever known."

Another criticized Scarborough, saying, "Joe has little self-awareness." 

"Whatever he says has been completely opposite so there’s that!" wrote another user. "I’m so surprised Joe would say that. That was sarcasm. So predictable coming out of Joe’s mouth," commented another.
